so, what you are saying is there is no mtvhd, vh1hd or cmthd. directv is creating these channels from the standard def channels? Or are they receiving these HD feeds from viacom?

No it does not mean those channels dont exist, it is simply how alot of HD channels start out. There may(or may not) be limited HD content on them to start with. Give it time, most HD channels follow this same path, some just take longer than others

So to me it's all a hoax...............calling these "HD" channels HD is a joke. NO HD content on half the channels D* has launched since Oct.
We now have 50" screens with a 25" picture.
What the hell good is that
You Charlie viewers, I wouldn't jump ship just yet

Not counting the ones added today, the only other channels D* has added that I haven't seen any HD content on are Bravo HD, Speed HD and Fuel HD. Certainly far less than half the channels.

If you get absolutely nothing else from it, you get this: far better picture and sound quality (even if it is still SD) than you had before on those channels, and the knowledge that you will be able to watch every HD offering on those channels, even the FIRST one, whenever that is.

It's not like you're paying more for those channels, and if you really prefer the old SD versions, you still have them. Or you can use your TV to stretch the picture if it bothers you not to use the whole screen.

What I'm saying is these should not be called HD and 'trick" consumers who are looking for a provider and not alot of kowledge of HD into thinking D* is the "leader" in HD.
I just don't think it's right.

It is fair to say that the new channels added since the end of September have a varying amount of HD - some mostly ALL HD, and 3 still with NO HD.

But added cumulatively (since you do get them all), when I scrolled though the HD channel list last night, in total amongst ALL THE NEW HD channels, there was a large selection of HD programming to choose from.

My point is that in getting ALL of this gives quite a nice overall programming selection virtually ALL OF THE TIME. And even better, these channels will be adding more and more HD content all of the time.

To dissect the totally of this huge new HD channel offering into bits and pieces doesn't make sense, taken as a whole it is AWESOME.

Seems the norm is to get the channel added then slowly start throwing in HD. This is fine, because the upconverted programs look MUCH better than their SD counterparts.

I agree 100%! It is much better than SD, and allows D* bragging rights in all their advertisements.

lol. D* honestly may not like me... i photocopied all the false advertising regarding MSGHD and FSNNYHD (flyer in the mail, directv.com program guide, directv.com scrolling channel logos and a best buy advertisement) and attached it to a letter to the office of the president letting them know that i didn't appreciate having these advertisements rubbed in my face when they don't even offer the channels.
