Just wondering what joy does one get from bashing one format? I mean whatever makes you happy, and I enjoy a good argument as much as the next guy, but some seem to BLINDLY follow one and disregard the other as junk, when in reality they are so similiar that in a blind test most of the "zealots" on both sides couldnt tell which one they were actually watching.
Any insight?

I don't necessarilly ever bash a format, just a group or point of view. Lopsided press releases, or people speaking in definites are what bother me (the mission accomplished talk... threads about why the war is already over, etc). I do not participate much in the audio or size debates, as for the most part its irrelevant.

It's the point of view that usually gets me bashing a format, with a dislike for Sony for all of the amazingly stupid things they've done mismanaging the Playstation brand (I think maybe they finally put a muzzle on their executives) reinforcing that.

In the end, many here have already made an investment, and are trying to back their decision to go with a given format.

I can understand that, and for the most part agree.

Yup stuff like Southwest Gamer: Top 21 Stupid Sony Quotes

I usually enjoy the back and forth. I'm not nearly as serious as some others. I support the format I'm currently invested in. With that said, it's looking more and more like two formats will survive for a while, so I'll probably go over to Joe's house and BORROW his PS3. :D

Whoa there teamerickson, I play games on that PS3 too!:D

Oh, come on - you've spent plenty of time in the D*/E* warzone... it's the same thing here. There's really not that much difference between the two. Just comes down to personal preference and which one has the movies/channels you want.

The argument is just fun... :)

True, like i said, i enjoy a good argument as much as the next guy. Its the blind, "this one is so much better/that one sucks" thing i was really wondering about. I could understand if one were head and shoulders above the other in PQ or audio, but lets face it thats not the case. Some just seem to take this wayyyy to seriously. cough cough, vurbano, cough:D

Edit: He isnt the only one

Ok this thread needs more hatorade.
Blu-ray has better movies lineup, and HD-DVD supporters can't take that, they worry more about what BR is doing than their own HD-DVD (example Vurbano,Diogen)
In the end the format that has better movies selection (BLURAY) will win.
I can't wait for the day when HD-DVD loses the war,I really want to see the reaction from HD-DVD supporters.

Better movies? That is subjective. But, there are definately some movies I wish HD DVD had and I'm sure there are movies Blu-Ray wishes it had.

Oh, your man crush on Johnny Depp is really showing!

LOL @ You.
I don't call that subjective, people want the movies that are being released on blu-ray more than HD-DVD.
You think that subjective? Then why is BR beating HD-DVD in sales?

Look at what blu-ray got lined up: http://www.satelliteguys.us/blu-ray-forum/51494-list-blu-ray-disc-titles.html
This titles are more impressive than what HD-DVD has or ever will well at least from the studios they have.
Blu-ray has the studios, and frankly those studios have more movies that people want other than "Transformers".
I am sorry but Blu-ray has the strenght and the #'s to beat Toshiba.

Blu ray players made by Samsung/Panasonic/LG/Sony/Philips/Sharp/Pioneer
vs
Toshiba/ and some unknown chinese brand player.
I think there is a reason why brand name company's that are known support blu-ray over HD-DVD.
Another thing to LoL about.

I own both formats and call them as I see them.

Sorry but HDM only has 1-2% of the market right now. Neither can win anything at this time. You are calling an election when only the votes from a few districts in New Hampshire are in. The mere fact of people trying to declare a winner just highlights their stupidity and ignorance of the situation.

High-Def 2.0 HD-dVD a no-show...
