Zydrunas Ilgauskas' buyout with the Wizards has been finalized. Signed, sealed and delivered.

Big Z is expected to entertain offers from Dallas and Denver among others. The Cavs, obviously are also in the hunt. It's rumored that Z will decide his destination over the weekend. At that point, he will be able to return to the chosen club by March 21st.

LBJ runaway favorite for MVP

File this under the Chapter titled "Holy Crap!".....

“LeBron is on pace to not just break [the assists by a forward] mark, but shatter it – almost a full assist per game ahead of Larry Legend’s best single-season mark. Also, note that only one of the top nine forward assists-per-game seasons was accomplished in fewer minutes per game than James’ 39.0 so far this season (Bird, ‘90-91, 38.0).”

The Painted Area: LeBron On Pace To Shatter Forward Assists Record

Cavs-Celtics injury updates, lineups & preview:

Projected starting lineups:

Cavs: Mo Williams, Anthony Parker, LeBron James, Antawn Jamison, Shaquille O'Neal
Celtics: Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Marquis Daniels, Kevin Garnett, Kendrick Perkins

Game-day notes:

  • It sounds like Paul Pierce is going to be held out of the game with a thumb injury. Daniels is coming back from the flu, but he's expected to play. Not that this is a massive advantage. The Cavs lost in Dallas when the Mavs were missing Dirk Nowitzki and in Denver when the Nuggets were without Carmelo Anthony. Cavs are fully healthy but Mike Brown said, at the moment, he does not have Leon Powe on his minutes sheet. So it sounds like he may not make his debut tonight.

  • Two key matchups for the Cavs, both on defense. Remember that the Celtics just picked up Nate Robinson, who played his first game for the Cs on Tuesday. He ripped up the Cavs in the last meeting when he was with Knicks with his quickness. Both Rondo and Robinson are a lot to handle for Williams right now. Mo seems to be dodging contact with that shoulder and that makes him even worse in pick-and-roll defense. The other is Garnett and Jamison. Because Garnett's knee isn't right, he spends a lot of time shooting from the outside now. But he's still a good rebounder and he's been effective in getting offensive boards and putting them back up. Jamison has to keep Garnett in front of him as much as possible.

  • Cavs are going to have to be more effective in halfcourt offense than they were the last time these teams met. I haven't seen the Cavs run much pick-and-roll for Jamison whatsoever. Maybe just a couple times. That may change tonight because the game will be slower than usual.

  • LeBron was very loose and having fun at shootaround here today. He made one of his one-handed 90-foot shots for the cameras. In my opinion he hasn't been in that great of a mood the last few games. Perhaps he was just tired. Perhaps the trade got him down a bit. But whatever seemed to be bugging him, it is gone. No idea what it means.

Not to take anything away from James's passing accomplishments, but the Celtics always ran a really slow, deliberate half court offense where, on posession after possession, Bird dumped the ball into Parish, McHale and Maxwell, leading to 60+% scoring opportunities with no assist given. Put Bird on a run-and-gun team and he'd have had Magic Johnson-like assist numbers every year.

Are they going to have you sign a waiver that you can't walk around while wearing it?? My daughter has one and she almost trips and falls every time she gets off the couch!!

Oh, the humanity of it all!!

I don't know what to make of it, but Paul Pierce is dressed and on the court, shooting around right now...

T-mus a few minutes until the Cavs/Celtics tip-off! Woooohoooo!

Seems all it did was intimidate the Cavs. He's not playing, and Boston is up 10. I'm a tad surprised

Cavs/Celtics and Nuggets/Warriors- that's a must-see doubleheader.

You've got the Cavs, trying to get their chemistry right with Jamison, against a Celtic teams that has fared well since the All-Star Break.

As for the late game- I'm a sucker for shootouts. First to 123 wins!

Something is wrong with this team. They just haven't been the same since the All-Star break. Mo Williams is still rusty since returning from an injury. Mike Brown can't settle on a consistent rotation. Speaking of consistent, I am not impressed with Antwan Jamison so far. He's wildly inconsistent. Oh, then Shaq goes down with a "severe" sprained right thumb. Now, we're without a Center!
