Just ordered HR24

How many OTHER things did you have to buy from Amazon to get all the credits to bring your bill down to $ 37 ? :)

$ 500 or so ? :D

More than that. :D Not all from Amazon though ... I have one of their Rewards Visa cards, and I use it to auto-pay for everything that I can, including utilities. I never carry a balance, so it doesn't cost me anything to use it. When you start using one of these for all the usual living expenses, the points start adding up!

Congrats! I am looking forward to getting mine in a few days. I can't recall the last time I saw a product that has received such universal praise. I mean, you really have to dig deep to find any negative comments. These days, that's pretty rare.

I know some folks dont like the GUI but I dont think anyone can argue about the speed of this thing. As long as it does stable DVR functions and MRV, any knocks are really nit picking.

If you really want to find those that don't like it, you may want to go look in the Dish Forums .... I'm sure there are some that are knocking it.
Just as many knock the DISH recvrs, worth it or not.

I completely understand, I just don't want to drop $400-$600 to replace my fleet, and lose the OTA to boot without another $150. Add in that they are all leased, and I think I'll keep my money.

HR24-Pro for $300, I would think about that though (just a wish, no HR24-Pro yet).

no offense but i love my hr21 pro. that is nice but an hr24 version would be sweet.

My new HR24 is on the UPS truck and on it's way to my house! Woo hoo!!! :D

You may have missed that about a week after posting my hesitation to spend $400-600 I caved and spent $300 to get two HR24's.

Overstock had a deal that sold them for $156 shipped and I jumped on two. Glad I did - as it didn't last long.

We may see an HR24 pro someday, who knows. The HR21 Pro served a specific purpose, is now pretty outdated, and there is still some demand for receivers like that (think sports bars, commercial environments, etc).

I have a Directv credit card and do the same thing. Put everything on it and pay the balance in full every month to collect points. I can use the points for Amazon but I actually use the credits to pay my Directv bill. I barely pay anything now for Directv.

yeah, j, i saw your post and then noticed the thread was 53 pages long. i got my hr21 pro a year ago. it was only 4 months old and it cost me only a few dollars more than a lease upgrade. there are things i like about it. bottom line, i got a great deal and i bought it. haven't regretted it either.

Question for those who recently activated an HR24 -- do they still ask if you have the receiver connected to a phone line? I don't, but usually tell them "yes" as it seems to be the answer they want. Always wondered what happens if you say "no?"

If you say Yes, they will ping the modem and authorize your recvr to accept PPV's thru the remote, if you say No they usually will turn that option off.

If you don't order PPV's thru the remote I would not worry about it.

They say you need a phone line plugged in in order to get any Sports packages either, but many have proved that wrong.

Then there's the theory that as long as you have one plugged in the rest don't have to be.

There are also MANY people that no longer have landlines.

I have one plugged in and 3 not.

I also have noticed that ever since I got my HR24, the Caller ID has worked flawlessly, was very spotty prior to.

Thanks Jimbo. I haven't connected a phone line in years and haven't had any problems. I subscribe to MLB-EI -- no issues there either. I was mostly curious as to why they always ask. Now I know!

many of us have it hooked up through ethernet but no this is not an issue :)

Got my HR24 -- activated within minutes, started checking it out. So far ...

The good: The speed, of course. This is the way it always should have been. Nice! Aesthetically very pleasing, and virtually silent operation.

The bad: Not many mentions of this, but the picture quality is a step down from all previous models. Looking via HDMI, there is a slight "smudging" to the images -- sharp edges are a little dull -- looks like there is some kind of filtering going on, almost like anti-aliasing, or some "averaging" of the lines to reduce noise. Mind you, this is very subtle -- I'm a (very picky) video engineer so I suspect this is non-issue for most, but it annoys me a bit. I see the same thing via component. If I had some test signals, I could quantify it. I might be able to take some screen grabs of some detailed graphics to illustrate the problem.

Overall, not sure if I'm pleased about trading speed for a worse picture.

i am as picky as you are and honestly i don't see this issue with the picture quality on the HR24. In fact its the first time i read someone post this. you're 100% sure all of your settings are correct?

Check HD Net on a Saturday morning, early like 6:30, they will have a test pattern up, only last for like 10 minutes.

Is there any adjusting you can do on the TV side to help ?

I too don't have this issue on my 60" Pioneer Elite, but some could be the TV processing.
