the point was that someone wrote that the blackout rules affecting many of us on Friday night makes it hard to convince one to want to upgrade to a tier with MLB Network in it. My point was to add that if you think blackout is bad, if you have AT120 you are looking at $13-15 more per month just to get access to MLB Network (you can't just straight add the sportspack as AT120 doesn't qualify so you have to go to AT120Plus plus sportspack or just go right to AT200).
If I want MLB Network bad enough, it'll be through directv because it's cheaper during the 24 month committment with all the rebates Directv offers during the committment period. I certainly won't be doing it on DISH Network unless charlie comes to his senses and allows me to just do a straight add of the sportspack to my AT120 package. I doubt that will happen because this addition looks to be purely a ARPS thing to me and see how many AT120 suckers find MLB Network is pretty much worth an additional $13-15 per month on their bill. MLB losing its popularity should have required this in the basic tier so they would have an advantage over the NFL and NBA and NHL in offering their league channel to everyone in AT120 and higher masses rather than in higher tiers with less eyeballs.
Per the press release, " MLB Network will be available on channel 153 to customers who subscribe to one of DISH Network’s America’s Top 200, DISH Latino Dos or MultiSport packages."
Currently (and hopefully it stays that way),
Dish Latino Dos (which has English and Spanish programming) is the same price as America's Top 120 [$44.99/month]. Again, MLB Network is not a channel we will watch...so, hopefully, this sports programming does not drive up the cost of Dos. However, with Dos, you do not get the English ESPNs. However, I believe Multisport can be added to Dos. Dos is also eligible for HD Free for Life.
Dish Latino Max (which is also eligible for HD for Life) has ESPN 1, 2, and ESPNews (no ESPN U currently) along with a variety of other channels for $13 more a month ($57.99/month).
