I was surprised at this one - this came out of the blue it seemed. I am surprised that nothing was leaked that they were in contract negotiations or nothing was put online ahead of time saying that "x is threatening to pull channels at midnight if a new contact is not in place" as we have seen in other disputes.

That gets me, too. I guess we get spoiled on here sometimes, thinking we're going to know everything in advance.

Turner Networks Removes Channels from DISH as Contract Deadline Passes

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- DISH Network (NASDAQ: DISH) announced that Monday night Turner Networks removed Boomerang, Cartoon Network, CNN, CNN en Español, HLN, truTV and Turner Classic Movies from the DISH programming lineup. The two companies have been unable to negotiate the terms of a renewed distribution agreement, and Turner refused to extend the overall agreement.

"In the past year, DISH has successfully renewed agreements with many large content providers," said Warren Schlichting, DISH senior vice president of Programming. "As a result, we are confident that we have offered a deal to Turner that reflects an appropriate value for our customers."

"DISH has had a productive relationship with Turner Networks for many years," said Schlichting. "We regret the service disruption to our customers, and remain committed to reaching an agreement that promptly returns this content to DISH's programming lineup."

Since this thread is getting more activity, I'll put this here as well.

Good thing I've already recorded all the Forensic Files that are being aired now.

And my daughter has shifted from watching the TOON networks to watching Doctor Who on Amazon Instant Video.

At least we get to see what companies own what channels in their extortion attempts.

I am for leaving them off and lowering our bills a bit; maybe a quarter heck I would settle for a dime. I do not have a single one of those channels in my list of favorite channels that I see and watch.

Got to admit this one comes as a surprise to me. Normally before these big disputes happen and channels are dropped I am given hints by one side or the other. This time I didn't hear a peep.

Like most other debates I do not believe this one will last more than a week or two.

I wouldn't pay squat for CNN either, their ratings suck so no one must be watching it

The only channel that effects my house is Cartoon Network. But kids will have to do with Nick & Disney along with Amazon Prime in the meanwhile. The rest of the channels on that list are not missed here. Keep our rates low Dish.

As everyone is saying this came as a complete surprise. I'm betting it will be for a very short time;
1. The fact we didn't hear anything means the talks were not totally adversary.
2. The fact the DISH statement is not harsh (We have had a good relationship etc etc)
3. CNN and HLN need viewers, layoffs are already taking place. The loss of any advertising eyes has to be worrisome for Turner.
Putting MSNBC in it's place may have been a little irritating to Turner...
