Did anybody else get the mailer that shows package prices increasing by $5 again? It explains that Dish is going to start separating out the cost of Locals on your package. I think they are doing this to put some pressure on the Local Providers so you can see if the price of their station carriage goes up. They are taking the old package which included locals and are decreasing the "core" package price by $5 but adding a $10 monthly fee for locals. So this equates to a net $5 increase in the monthly bill.

I know it's not much but there was no indication this was coming. If you log into MyDish and look under "My Offers" they are giving 1 month free of some premium channels or 1 free PPV certificate.

Um, there is an annual rate increase at this time of year. That has gone on for time immemorial. You also will see that every other provider does the same thing.

Doesn't mean it is fair or that we should like it. DirecTV and SlingTV are starting to look good to me, really good.

For my $5 extra dollars how about the jerks at Dish Network let me watch BBC World News? What clowns. I am already paying over $100 monthly.

Flex Pack + News Pack will get you that channel at a cheaper price - but you would likely lose other channels that you want but didn't mention.

Wasn't there 1 year, maybe 2010 or so where Dish did not increase rates on programming but stuck to increasing fees instead? I think there was 1 year when that happened.

Can you opt out of locals and save the $5 now?

Your last statement brought the old saying to mind...."no one expects the Spanish Inquisition" :)

Feel free to look at Direct. I just did a couple months ago. Their promotional price was about $20 cheaper/month. That would have lasted for a year, and then it would be $10 MORE per month than what I was paying Dish. I did just work with Dirt and got $10/month off my bill for the next two years AND a price lock for those two year. Of course, everyone's needs are different.

Yeah, what they did that year was to have a sizable rate increase, not equipment fees. The amount of rate increase would have pretty well equalized the second year increase if there was one. Yes, then they increased the equipment fees.

Directv Now without DVR is a no go. Does SlingTV have DVR yet?

The PROBLEM is no local channels...NO GUIDE. DISH should let us PICK which Locals we want to SHUT OFF! NOW that would be a DEAL.

You can add a TiVo Roamio OTA and get a guide. Easy to find on sale for $350 guide for life included. Saves money in the long run and no blackouts.

Is TiVo going to make a model that has everything the Bolt, Roamio, and Roamio Plus have all in one model? OTA, 6 Tuners, 3 TB, 4k, etc.

Not sure what you mean. I have the Flex Pack with no locals and I still have guide data on my OTA channels.

FORGIVE me please i do have SENIOR moments at times. BUT surely some of the COST of LOCALS are all the other local channels i don't even WATCH. That maybe part of the must carry law and we will have to take and pay for them all or NONE.

Baby steps. Even the option to add or remove all locals (and their cost) is a monumental step in the right direction. We have it for Flex Pack now, hopefully with the separate charge for locals in other packages this will allow us to remove them from those packages as well.
