Possible to use DirecTV triple LNB with FTA receiver?

Thanks for the help! I got it working. A friend is interested in FTA so I'm going to give it to him to play around with. My main dish is one of the 3ABN ones which gets pretty much everything, but I might try the dual setup using the Terk just for fun. ;)

Possible to use DirecTV triple LNB with FTA receiver?

Excellent! Great info. Thanks! Regarding the 101 LNB (the one all the way to the right when looking at the feedhorns straight-on), will it "just work" if I plug in any of the 4 outputs to the FTA receiver? Should I treat it as a single 11250 circular LNB? Do I need to select a switch position...

Possible to use DirecTV triple LNB with FTA receiver?

Yeah, I assumed they were all circular LNBs. What I would have liked to do is bypass the internal switch and connect each LNB separately to the FTA receiver. That way I could get clear channels from all three sats without repositioning the dish. You mention that the 101 LNB will work. Is it not...

Possible to use DirecTV triple LNB with FTA receiver?

I came across a DirecTV dish with a triple LNB. I took it apart, and the three feedhorns are labeled "101," "110," and "119." However, I read that there is a built-in switch. If this won't work with a regular FTA receiver, is it possible to rewire it to bypass the internal switch? I have it...

    Are DigiCipher II channels free?

I noticed that many channels on C band are DigiCipher II. I found a few receivers for sale that apparently support this. They're expensive. Are these channels free when using a DigiCipher II receiver? Or is there some type of access system built into the format (codes or keys or whatever)?

    Me vs. Galaxy 11

I looked at this post, and noticed that the 85cm PrimeStar dish scored really well! These seem to be really great dishes to score if you're lucky. And they're fiberglass! Prior to reading this post, I bought one of the 90cm dishes from 3abn.org. At $53 shipped, I couldn't resist. How can they...

Question about feeds - some analog?

Well then it makes perfect sense for networks to want to switch to DVB - more channels and clean digital picture. I assume that the news feeds get sent from the news crew's location to the studio for editing / compositing into a live program. That live program then gets sent out on ANOTHER...

Question about feeds - some analog?

According to Lyngsat, almost all satellites use DVB for video. However, I've noticed that for some of the feeds, the video encryption method is listed as "NTSC" rather than "DVB." Also, there is no symbol rate listed. Does this mean they're analog?

    Me vs. Galaxy 11

Yeah, the 76cm dish is probably too small to get those weak signals. I noticed you're in L.A. Do you know a place in town where I can get a larger dish? It might be better to get it locally than to pay shipping on a large 1.2m dish.

    Me vs. Galaxy 11

I'm having trouble getting a good signal from Galaxy 11 (91°W). I'm using a Winegard 76cm dish, which seems to pull good signals from other Ku band satellites just fine. It's just this one that is giving me trouble, especially at the weaker end of the Ku band. In the receiver, I can actually see...

4:2:2 - This refers to chroma subsampling, right?

A PCIe card sounds like the best bet in this situation. Twinhan seems to be a popular choice. I assume the card takes the MPEG2 stream and sends it to a Directshow filter to be decoded with your codec of choice. From that point it's sent to the video card's overlay and out the DVI connector...

4:2:2 - This refers to chroma subsampling, right?

I noticed on AMC-1 there are some NBC channels listed in Lyngsat as 4:2:2. I tried to pick them up, but they're just garbled mess. I can still get the audio, but no luck on the video. I assume this is because my Pansat 3500SD is designed to decode 4:2:0 MPEG2 only. 4:2:2 is a common term in the...

Can we see anything past 177°W?

I was checking out dishpointer.com, and the last satellite listed is NSS 5 at 177°W. It lists the elevation at like 17°, which for me is very close to the horizon. Have you guys had any luck picking up anything beyond that? Lyngsat doesn't even list NSS 5 under "America," so it looks like a long...

Hi! New to FTA, looking for advice!

Thanks for the advice and the warm welcome! I did manage to work out the channel editing on the 3500SD. There is a copy of gTools included with the latest firmware from Pansat's web site. It's a sweet program and did the trick. I do have a couple of issues with it though: 1. You have to...

Hi! New to FTA, looking for advice!

Hey guys! I'm totally new to FTA and am looking for a little guidance. I've been lurking on the forum for a while trying to gather as much education as possible, and finally bought some gear to play around with. I'm a very techy guy when it comes to video (I actually own my own post production...
