I was scheduled for the upgrade today to get 2 HR20's. I followed the "DirecTV Ordering Tips" found on this site. When the installer called he said he didn't have any and the warehouse didn't have any. DirecTV told me that I could purchase them on my own and they would work with me on the price. Problem is I can't find a place to purchase them. Anyone know of a place where I can purchase 2 HR20's? I've checked with BestBuy, Circuit City and no luck. Thanks in advance.

Costco's if there are any around you.

You need to change your terminology, you are leasing not purchasing and Ebay is probably your best source to lease a new HR20. Be careful that you are not trying to lease a box already leased to someone D* won't activate it get Access and RID #s and call D*

I would call some of the sponsors at the top of the page to see if they can help you obtain one.

Why so negativie about ebay? Bought my H20-100 over a year ago and have not had any trouble.

You never know for sure what you get from the person on the other end.
Is there a balance on the one you've bought, D* has dropped prices another 100. You should be able to tell D* that you NEED your OTA antenna and D* should be able to accomadate you.
Whats wrong with the HR21's anyways ?
Have them send you out the OTA box as well ....
Tell them to pay for the OTA tuner,it's not your fault they decided people didn't need this feature.

Ditto on ebay! Got stuck with someone who sent me an hr 20 all banged up. However, there are reputable people out there on Ebay.

I would be very carefull buying used electronic equipment on ebay.
Proceed with extreme caution.

New, thats a different story.

HR20's, and H20's for that matter, have disappeared from local shelfs. For the past month plus all I've seen are H/HR 21 series. Asked at Costco and they said that's all that is available to them now. Guess if you want OTA and can find an H/HR20 at a local store then you better snatch it up.

As for eBay, or any Internet provider, there are authorized dealers. Got my H20 from one and had no problem. I'd stay away from used equipment....too many risks.

My local Costco has lots of HR20's and H20's.

I'm sure it differs from city to city. I wonder if it has anything to do with the availability of locals on DirecTV? We have them and I've seen no H/HR20's since before Christmas.

Could be, but we have hd locals along with plenty of H/HR20's.

Actually I'm kicking myself for not obtaining, saying "buying" kicks off a whole different discussion, an H20 from Costco when our local had them back in November. While we have locals on DirecTV I do have an external antenna so hooking up OTA is not a problem. It doesn't happen often but when we do get hit with a thunder/lightning storm we sometimes lose the satellite feed so I switch to OTA. Not a big issue but I like the option. Only have one unit, the H10, that's got OTA but not MPEG4 capable that I need to upgrade. It's on our third TV so that makes it even less of an issue but still......

Stay away from ebay!

I couldn't agree more. I bought a few Region 2 PAL DVDs offered on eBay from what I thought were reputable outfits in this country a year or so ago. I used my credit card through PayPal. Small dollar amounts. No porn. Just titles not available on Region 1 DVDs.

Then I discovered many unauthorized charges on my credit card totaling hundreds of dollars! I immediately reported it to PayPal and my credit card co., which of course canceled that card and issued me a new one.

After filling out various forms, affidavits, etc., PayPal gave me credit for some (!) of the fraudulent charges. Then, I had to depend on my credit card co for the remaining credit. I finally got all fraud charges reversed but lesson learned. I vowed I'd never buy another thing from eBay and I haven't.

YMMV.
