Could a old voom box work?

I've heard that it's a old 505 unit. I'm not sure the differences between that and the 505a. I know obviously you'd need the dish and the card...
 
Only if it will have new FW with Dish proprietary libs, like 2WIRE did 622HZ or MPL1022.
Actually for FTA channels in MPEG-2 it should works with minimal changes.
 
I think voom was digicipher? If the box was activated before voom shut down you can use it for OTA. If not activated its probably worthless.

I'm surprised most of those boxes didn't go up to canada, one of their dbs providers uses the same platform.
 
Motorola 550 I believe was the box used by Voom. The Digicipher data stream is totally incompatible with the DISH data stream. Even for OTA these boxes are somewhat worthless, there has been some changes to the OTA data stream on some channels that cause the box to lock up, PBS in Dallas does not agree with the 550.
