does a 501/508 dvr need to be hook to phone line all the time?

I believe the requirement is only for dual tuner units, but I keep my 508, 721 and ViP622 hooked to a phone line.

No extra fee but you won't be able to use the remotre to ordera PPV. . You might consider buying amoem quality plug in phone jack.

I order ppv's online. One more question is there a 5.98 dvr fee for the 510?

There are no DVR fee's for the 501 and 508. There is a DVR fee for the 510
