I was arguing with my brother that no way could our millions of tiny dishes be talking TO the satellite...

But.. he says it must.. since you can download ON DEMAND your billubg info.... local weather.. etc etc.. even without a phone line.

True?

Your dish is only a receiver not a transmitter. It only will transmit over a phone line.
Billing info is downloaded over a phone line.

You are TVRO Television Receive Only, if you had a Starband, Wild Blue or Directway system you could be 2 way broadcast and receive.

No.

Your receiver is "known" to the system, and your receiver "knows" where it is, so it will pick out your local weather from the stream.

Oh come on guys, everyone knows the government has LEO satellites all over the place, picking up information sent out from our dishes, they are monitoring what we watch!! Its true, unless you can prove otherwise.

Now please excuse me while I go find my tinfoil hat.. ;)

Yeah, all the porn we download and adult shows we watch are monitored by the receiver and uploaded to the FBI using the sattelite dish. It will be used against you if you vote the "wrong way" in the next election :hatsoff:

He's right, they can, well at least from your car, http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2002/12/22/MN242772.DTL
and

But not the dish. Though dish could be able to program our units to report the most watched stuff, just like Tivo :(

Remember to make those tinfoil hats into a cone like on the movie Signs

The radios are not really transmitting, the billboard is actually scanning for tuned frequencies. So what happens when they scan the 20 cars passing through the scan field and determines a "country theme" but the next 20 cars in VIEW of the billboard are actually "urban themed" this is one of the dumbest wastes of money!

Its true DVR's can collect data if so programed, but once again they do not transmit anything. The data must be collected via dial out modem or ethernet; depending on your connection method (if any) and assuming you didn't opt out.

TVRO units also don't transmit, most also need some sort of dial out modem if info needs to be sent; as posted before only some ISP type dishes, and maybe some high end business dishes with applicable FCC licences, are so equipped.

What a bunch of cheapskates. Can't the government get their own subscription instead of monitor what we watch? :D :D :D
