Fox News is back

That's probably because they are mostly still news channels and not infotainment channels that also do some news on occasion. Of course, the news can't get in the way of the incessant talking heads on those infotainment channels.

The problem all stems from changing the face of news channels from a service provided in the public interest to a profit source. Goes back a long way.
It would be nice if Dish offered more English-language International news channels.

It's even evident when you compare the made-for-USA Al Jazeera America with the previously available Al Jazeera English.

The desire to turn everything into a competition is a weird human trait.
My country against your country.
My political party against your political party.
My school against your school.
My brand of car against yours brand.
My TV channel carrier against your carrier.
My favorite "news" channel against yours.

It almost never ends.
And the most violent/contentious: my god against your god.

Who cares. FOX news is back. Watch it if you like it. Don't watch it if you don't.

It's that simple. No reason to fight over it. :D
*sigh* :(

*puts away pitchfork and torch*
Thus the entire reason we are in the war with the Extremist Islamic Muslims. It is like we are stuck in the Holy Crusades of the middle ages.
Not really. If we were, there'd be a lot more dead people. People always think these are the bad times. In the 10's and 40's they'd been right. But otherwise it is typical hyperbole from mostly people who don't know what bad times actually are. And man is this off-topic!

Isn't 5 years a relatively long time for these types of deals? Isn't it typically 2 or 3? If so, the "substantially higher rate" Dish is paying is over a substantially longer time period, so no other increases during that time.

Both good points.

Says also (release) the F-biz net is moving to lower tiers
I have 250 (HBO/sho/Bb) so have no clue what and where that means.
I am on AT120, so I guess I'll have another channel not to watch. (I currently receive FNC but not FBN.)
But, more choices are still generally a good thing, whether utilized or not.

This is tangentially related, I posted it "elsewhere" and thought I would share it here. I know the actual numbers are off but...

A thought just occurred to me, I wonder what the balance was for Dish considering losing a certain number of subscribers vs fees they did not have to pay for all their subscribers to FOX during the outage.

I had never considered that factor in the situation.

Hypothetically they lost 20,000 subs @ $80 per month - that's $16 million per month, but lets say they pay FOX $2 (I don't know what the real number is) per sub and they don't have to pay that for their 13 million subs - that's $26 million per month.

Now that the channels are back on the air Dish may have to start recovering the losses, but they probably were not hurting fiscally at all.

I had never thought to try and calculate the real time financials for Dish and FOX, but it really looks like FOX was loosing bigtime while the channels were off.

It was good.

A bunch more people discovered that cnn, fox, and msnbc all regurgitate pap and bloviate the day away and more viewers broke their addictive watching habits.
Now they go for a walk or do something else that is productive.

Hopefully the fights will continue and a glimmer or hope remains that viewing costs will stabalize.

The numbers are off (1$ per sub is closer) but the synopsis is correct.
I never watched F-news till today after iraq .
(flipping back and forth just to see/ this thread).
I'm sorry but how in the world are these left over cinimax soft porn chic's
News reporters.
I flipped to CNN and I see 3 men in suit and ties and one natural haired african American women.
The other had 4 blonds with one brunette with more chemicals induced inside them than in a Dupont corp warehouse and ditzy beyond belief and wearing stilts as shoes.
Unreal.
I wonder what the demographics ( watchers) are men verses women on this channel is??

Nobody discovered anything. The viewers of the respective channels will go back to viewing them as they did before. :(
