That happened 20 years ago when sports was removed from "broadcast tv"

I see more and more sports such as cycling and World Cup Skiing being moved to NBC Universal Sports which is unavailable by cable or sat here in Rochester. I've emailed WHEC and was told they have no plans to add an additional channel.

Charlie Engron doesn't care about New York People! :p Seriously, I'd love to see this issue come up with Altitude and FSN Rocky Mountain and see how he reacts. He's being real stupid, alienating the biggest market in America. Hammer out a deal with MSG and YES. And this is coming from a guy who can't stand NY/NJ sports teams.

not everybody cares about sports..its a good alternative for those who don't want to subsidize the "sports addicts"

Agreed, but if given a choice of the local cable company with the local sports teams, DirecTV with the local sports teams, and Dish with no locals sports, all for around the same price, few people are going to pick Dish.

Anecdotal evidence from around NYC says DirecTV has already left Dish in the dust due to no Yankees, and losing the Rangers / Sabres / Islanders / Devils / Nets / Knicks can't help. And if Dish isn't giving those without a local RSN a discount, why pay the same price (more or less) for less content?

IMHO, it's real sad to see my sister sub to Dish. Charlie (Mitchell Henderson) Ergen is making his service a complete joke and IMO, by the end of the decade, there may not even be a Dish Network anymore. I'm so happy to be with D*. I previously had digital cable (Charter) and while it was OK, they didn't have a whole lot of channels. I'm so happy with D* because of the fact that they cater to everybody especially all sports and most notably, YES, MLB Network and my personal faves, GSN HD, WGN HD and my locals (SLO) in HD. IMO, Charlie just needs to give up E* and become what Mitch Henderson became, An hero.

You're 1/50th right. Ergan doesn't care about people from any state, not just NY, except for one person in Colorado, that being himself and his wallet.

I know many people who aren't sports addicts but follow the Sabres or Yankees and enjoy watching their games. You don't have to be a die hard sports fan to enjoy watching your local teams.

Exactly! If this is really about 'protecting subscribers' then those that used to receive MSG and MSG Plus should have their rates lowered since Charlie is no longer paying Cablevision for these channels therefore he is paying less so subscribers should be paying less as well.

I have never asked Dish or other Subs to subsidize sports. I have always been more than willing to purchase my sports subscriptions and sports tiers. Just make the deal to make the programing available to the subs, whom wish to purchase and see the programing. They certainly make sure they have enough porn, international and religious programing available for subs.

And don't forget shopping channels.

I wrote an Email to the ceo box last week to voice my frustration with this and got a response that "DISH Network is pleased to offer NHL Center Ice on channels 625-639 and NHL Network on 9681 at no cost to you while we work to restore MSG and MSG Plus."

Unfortunately, when I followed up, the CSRs had no record of it and the Executive office didn't think they could give me that deal. I have the name and # of someone who was going to check with whoever sends Email from the ceo Email box -- he was supposed to get back to me and he hasn't so I will have to call them to follow up.

Part of the problem was that whoever replied to my Email stripped the Email header off my original Email in their reply back to me. They want to check to make sure I'm not faking the Email.

I too emailed the CEO mailbox regarding the loss of MSG. The reply was they were working hard to restore the channels but were please to offer NHL Center Ice at no cost. I tried to view these channels but I needed a subscription. I have emailed back to the CEO mailbox a couple of times since, but they have not answered any of them. I seem to no longer get any responses.

Even though I have Center Ice I still cannot see the Rangers, Devils, Islanders as I live in the MSG blackout area. My subscription to Center Ice is the only thing keeping me on Dish. I would cancel Dish now and go to Fios or Direct but I have already paid for Center Ice.

What do shopping channels have to do with anything? They pay to be carried and help keep prices down. Most religious channels fall under public interest and cost no money to carry either.
