NFL Sunday Ticket belongs to Directv like white on rice.

If I did my math correctly, it would take a little under 3 million subscribers to break even on the $700 million figure.

consider the commercial contracts too. all the restaurants, bars, casino sport books, etc that all have sunday ticket. commercial revenue is big on sunday ticket

There's that, and there's also the fact that there are undoubtedly a large number of residential Sunday Ticket customers out there who are DirecTV customers in significant part, if not entirely, because of Sunday Ticket.

If Sunday Ticket became non-exclusive, or worse for DirecTV, went exclusive somewhere else, they'd lose a lot more revenue than just their Sunday Ticket subscription fees.

Tagliabue or the 'greedy bastard' was key in strengthening the revenue sharing system... started the salary cap system... didn't have any strikes or lock outs...

and as for the topic. i doubt direct tv will let the ticket go any time soon. its a cash cow in the brand recognition alone.

And you can bet the new "greedy" guy is going to want a BIG increase to keep this exclusive next time around. Expect an increase in the subscription cost. I don't expect this to affect subscription numbers especially among commercial establishments. I know people who have the ST and it would have to go up significantly for them to consider cancelling it. I suspect a lot of people that have it would feel the same way.

It won't surprise me to see the package price double when the contract expires and is renegotiated/bid.

Goodell announced today he's taking a 20% pay reduction.

(80% of $11 million is still a nice chunk of change)

The NFL signed an exclusive contract with EA in the world of video games too. They must feel having a sole provider is their best option.

Note that if Sunday Ticket gets sold to more outlets (Dish, Comcast, Time Warner, etc.) then you better balance the increased ST revenues against lower fees paid by FOX / CBS for their packages. They (and the local affiliates) are going to expect a discount if the NFL lets more people get the Ticket and tune away from the local FOX / CBS stations.
