A number of people here like their S9. You got any snow yet, RT?
I'll guess about two+ weeks ago I got almost an inch. Several days later it was almost gone. Then 1-1/2 inches. Temp went up and it is all gone now. Yippppie! I hate that stuff. We need an old time Winter full of tons of snow to keep lake Michigan from getting any lower. But I still don't want too much. No money so I can't go away to Arizona for the Winter, so I will take what comes.....

scobuy has them for about 80 shipped but there are several other names for this receiver. It seems that many are cloning it or coming up with their own version with the same hardware. The specs are impressive.

I have just purchased an Openbox X5 and Galaxy 19 97.0 W Satellite is not listed on the menu. How can I add Galaxy 19 and other Western Satellites to this box. Please advise! Thanks.

Usually there is a menu function in the satellite list screen to add or edit an existing satellite.

If you don't care if the correct satellite name is displayed, select any satellite from the existing list and blindscan. All of the channels from the satellite will be scanned, but the displayed satellite name will be incorrect.

openbox x-5

I have created a USA/canada satellite bin for X5 . This is a basic channel map LNB settings need to be added and then scan satellite . AMC21 ku is duplicated and will see it in slot 1 as a test. I scanned PBS channels and can be deleted.
Really like the receiver has some really nice features and audio/video super and adding western satellite will fix the problem for us living in the west.

It amazes me how you folks making fun of the Openbox and bashing the Openbox which as far as know is against this forum rules.
If folks would say the same about the microHD here, there would be war at this forum.

If someone wants to buy or consider to buy an Openbox just let them know what it can do or not and the consequences like good or poor support of their boxes they will be buying with it.

As time and technology advances, eventually all boxes will lose their support. For some it will be sooner than others as newer boxes with newer or better technologies hitting the market.

I have Openbox S10 and I had hardware problem. But overall so far I was able to watch TV on a daily basis except for 2 days when I was waiting for an replacement part, but this could happen with any box. My S10 performed very well.

So if someone wants to send me their non-clone Openbox S10 just drop me a line. I am still looking for an cheap or free S10, I can get or buy. I am serious.

johann12,

You will see many jokes in this thread about the many models available (at least 15 in the last year). Were you aware that these models are not manufactured by a company called Openbox? These units are clones that are manufactured by dozens of Chinese companies and marketed under the latest model and trying to outdo each other by offering a newer and higher model number.
:fencing:

The problem is that you can't compare a model. Just because they have the same model number, they are likely not to be based on the exact hardware or from the same factory. If you want to compare an Openbox model, you would need to qualify where it was purchased and when.

BTW... Don't look now, but the developer of the microHD provided technical support for a new Openbox buyer without any snarky comment about what he bought.

I have a S10 but it is off line now. Found need to remove cover if there is a problem and make sure the motherboard and tuner board have a good connection and the tuner connector lost tension and soldered a bridge between the 2.
I think openbox after visiting their site is not interested in the western world"USA etc" on the S16 and X5 both did no include the western birds. when I added them to existing satellite list on X5 ran out of ram space and had to remove eastern satellites. My X5 is working really good now and use it mostly for PBS feeds. When there is a signal drop receiver recovers and the earlier receivers did not on H264 mpeg4. If you install the bin DB(satellitebasic).bin receiver will be ready to go. Internet functions work ok but found porn only works on proxy. Add a USB flash drive and can download game and home movies ect.
I tested the cam in receiver for private server and worked but all the channels were not in SID order. This will be removed from receiver as I have no interest in using it for this type of service.
On the openbox forum the receiver files were removed and can see no justification for this as there are good technical advances in this product. I noticed X6 is on the market and uses a different micro then X5 but there is no support on factory site yet.

At least two.. I've grown to like mine. :)
Well........I guess I have the only one that works. My S9 has been on almost 24 hours a day for longer than I can remember and it puts out a great picture. I guess with all the zillions that were made, at least one had to be a good one.

I finally ordered one of these so I am looking forward to seeing what it can do. Should have it later this week.

Cool have fun with that new toy pal

This box has some great internet functions for the price. The FTA performance is OK. The blind scan is very fast but not the best. It doesn't seem to get 16apsk or very low symbol rate (under 2000) channels. If there was a way to refine some of the fta functions this box would be much better.

I am having a problem now where I tried to upgrade my box and it crashed in the middle of the upgrade. Does anyone know how to recover this box with a serial cable? I tried the usb recovery and it wouldn't work.

I was able to recover my X5 receiver by using a high quality CF card with a cf card reader and a certain version of the firmware.

The 7/24 firmware has been very stable for me. The iptv functions have been working well along with the satellite functions.
