I was going to post something about this today. Yes I do believe that the SD channels look better now.

I am not sure this is because VOOM did something or because I set my VOOM box in Native mode instead of keeping it in 1080i mode

I agree. I watched a SD movie the other night and was very happy with the
quality. MUCH better than what I got with cable.

Now.. CAN WE PLEASE GET THE SCI-FI CHANNEL?? : - ) <yes, I know they're
capped! <g> >

Haven't changed anything on my end but the video looks good on most SD channels.

Speaking of that - how can you tell for sure which mode you're in? I
don't see any feedback anywhere. I just hit the button until I get the
behavior that looks right w/r to aspect ratio. Sometimes its hard to
tell because it seems like some SD stuff is being stretched at the
source to fit the screen, while other times it gets vertical bars.

I got Voom before I got my HDTV, so right now I'm watching everything
on an SD set - the reception is still a lot better than my local cable
though. Soon - HD.

Once my system was up overnight and I got the system update, I'm not
seeing any macroblocking or other related problems that other people
are reporting. But then again, I'm not watching in HD, so I might not
be able to see subtle stuff.

Thanks,
SR

I think this is correct when you push the little red button in the bottom right corner of the STB.

1st (from top) red bar light lit =1080i
2nd = 720p
3rd = 480p
4th = 480i
All 4 lit = Native

Please correct me if I'm mistaken guys. :)

How do you set it to native?

Push the little red button behind the flip down door on the bottom right corner of the STB until all four red/orange bars light.

Well I would love to see Sci-FI channel make an entry (in HDTV woo!!!) I could gladly point to 5-6 channels I could easily trade for SciFi...but maybe we won't have to trade anything, just wait until October?

You're email's do not have the original content so we're only getting one
side of the story.

What are you replying to here that references SCI-FI in October?

Oh I am referring to the press release that Voom is expanding and will be able to hold more STD and HD channels, I imagine once the space is available they may go after the popular channels other Sat providers offer. The press release says October.

Cool - but where are the red bars? The only thing I see on the front
of the box is a lit-up dish icon when the box is on.

It depends on the manufacture and type of HD monitor/tv you have. Also
16X9 or 4X3. 16X9=1080i, 4X3=native but only if your monitor accepts
720p. ESPN HD is 720p. You will have to experiment.

We're talking the little red button behind the cover on the front of=20
the box? The cover behind the "Motorola" logo? There's no lights in=20
there on my box - just a red button. I guess there's some variation in=20
manufacturing.

[VOOM] Re: Did SD picture quality improve?

The lights them selves are in side the door, just the red button is.
Press the button and look at the STB and you'll see the light pipes=20
light up. 1st (from top) red bar light lit =3D1080i
> >>> 2nd =3D 720p

> >>> 4th =3D 480i

If your TV doesn't suport 720p setting it to native will give you=20
problems on ESPNHD.
