Ah - NOW I see them - DOH!

I wanted to play with it, but the reception is completely out now
because its raining. No blocks, just completely black screen with no
audio.

I would imagine that Voom is more sensitive to this than the other
dishes because the Voom sat is so far east that for most of us, the
angle is pretty low so the dish has to look through a LOT of
atmospheric effects compared to one that's more overhead.

I use native mode on mine, that seems to work this best for me as I have a 4x3 HDTV in my bedroom, this way the HD looks good and the SD fills the screen.

RE: [VOOM] Re: Did SD picture quality improve?

The stutter will go away with the next code push, among other improvements.

My experience with picture quality was like this, for about the first
3 or 4 days I was wondering why I bought into the VOOM thing, then I
read on one of these forums about the different formats and apparently
the installer had left it in native, I booted it up to 1080i and what
a difference!! The picture will rip you right off the couch. Since
then I've tried differnt modes and it seems my 42 in. GE is happiest
with 1080i both HD and SD look better.
How ever the picture quality does vary widely from absolutely
stunning to nearly unwatchable. Actually I did give up trying to
watch Starship Troopers it was so washed out and pixelating.

After I got my reciever replaced I haven't had any lock up or drop out
problems still have the micro stutter.

By and large I'm satisfied with VOOM. That one or two HD programs a
week that I really get into seem to make it all worth while.

Yes I would like the SciFi channel then I could get rid of my other
dish.

When I use native mode, the HD channels look great, but the SD
channels and some of the OTA channels are scrambled. Why is that?

[VOOM] SD clarity watching Reagan State Funeral

There's a lot of talk about clarity on the SD channels in the recent days.
All I know is watching foxnews, cnn, msnbc has been nothing short of amazing
today/tonight. It's not HD but WOW am I impressed with the picture. Just
amazing.

That's because your display doesn't support 480i through the HD
input. Many newer displays do, some older models don't.

[VOOM] Recent SD Picture Improvement?

Is it my imagination or has the SD PQ improved? Not that I watch the
channel, but the Oxygen PQ yesterday was excellent and Comedy looked
much better than it used to. I have a 60" screen so poor quality
picture is very noticeable.

I've noticed it too. Better PQ.

I've notice not only the SD PQ but HD PQ improved as well. Still see compression lines in dark reds and blues on headline news and one or two others. I just adjusted my convergence a drop and the HD PQ last night was amazing. Wasn't sure if it was VOOM or the adjustment.
