Not if you own it. Most are leases, are you sure you own it?

Rec. must be really old if they do own it. Some people think if they order from Solid Signal etc. they own them. You can pay several hundred dollars and it's still a lease.

Can you explain what you mean?
If I buy a Dish Network receiver from Solid Signal, I own it and never have to return it. How is it different with Directv?

All you gain with paying for a Directv box is guaranteeing the model you want instead of maybe an older model the tech shows up with

afaik directv doesn't sell receivers anymore
only way to keep one is if its a model they don't want back (something old)

Is there anyway of buying Directv receivers?
Or a way to keep a deactivated receiver for later use?
You may find one on eBay. Find one advertised as owned, get the RID, then contact Directv to verify that it's owned. You will likely have to buy a new access card, usually $20.

thre really is no advantage to owning a receiver.
they all cost the same per month

I want to own the receivers so I can use them in an RV and deactivate them when I don't need them and reactivate them when I use the RV.

just take a home receiver with you.
you cant use it in both places anyway
and if you have an hs17, well you cant have a receiver/dvr on the account with it
