I have an old 301 receiver and a DVR-510...will Dish give me any credit for these to be used towards upgrading to a newer DVR (i.e. ViP 622 or ViP 722)?

And that is only if you own them rather than DISH owning them. Both of those receivers could be owned or leased, today most are leased.

Mine are owned, back when I was with DISH in 2004-2005. Hmm...just $10 per receiver, huh. Can you use old receivers like the 301 or 510, or does the switch to MPEG-4 make these receivers completely obselete?

Only MPEG-2 HD receivers are obsolete. Most MPEG-2 SD receivers are still current and working fine on the western arc.
