Wilt,

I know you've said you're close to releasing the new version of software for the stbs. Are they still on track to deliver it very soon? We're all itching for it.

Also, I'm sure you've seen the negative comments about the Voom Guy. Can you say whether someone out there (besides yourself) is listening to this? I've not heard one positive thing about the Voom Idiot, er ah, Guy yet.

One other thing, I know it's come up before, but I'm wondering if someone may be considering making it easier (i.e. cheaper) for existing Voom customers to install another stb in their home. I, for one, would install another one but I can't deal with paying $199 for something which I could do myself.

Basically just curious as to whether these comments/suggestions are getting to the right ears...

Thanks.

RE: [VOOM] Wilt-Updated Software and other questions

I think the easiest answer is "yes" to all.
That doesn't mean that everything will go the way you, or even I, might
prefer it in all cases other than the software release--which will be
soon--but people are listening and looking and thinking.
Wilt

I agree. If I feel that Voom is the service to stick with after they implement WM9. And that they still have the HD lead after D* adds its channels, I would consider buying one of the recievers I am renting. But theres no way I am paying 200 bucks for a service call. Hell I installed the current recievers myself while the installer changed the dish. Paying an install charge is ridiculous.

If they add the Regional Sports Networks at some point, I would look at making VOOM my permanent satellite solution, and I would look towards actually owning all my own equipment at that point. However, without all my Chicago sports teams available, I'll only be able to put up with not having them for so long.

Wilt-

Thanks for the reply. It's nice to know people are listening. I understand they may or may not do what we all want but it's nice to know they're considering what we're asking for.

Thanks for the reply on the other questions as well. I can't wait for the new software!

Hopefully Voom can fix the picture "black screen" using the DVI connection. All I can say it was happening less.

Jimmy, the black screen is happening on all outputs at the same time, it's not just DVI. I have a 13" monitor hooked up to composite and it blacks out at the same time as the DVI.

Okay, it's now July 1st and still no udpated. Can we at least get some kind of estimate on when the new software is being released?

RE: [VOOM] Re: Wilt-Updated Software and other questions

When the last update was sent out, I believe Wilt told people to turn their
receivers off when they go to bed and the update would occur around 2 or
3am. So I wonder if our receivers need to be turned off for the update to be
downloaded?

And why some new customers have it on their boxes?

Same here, turned off every night. I've even been turning it off during daytime hours too incase something hapens.

It's rather obvious it hasn't been delivered or people would be screaming "I have it!"

Just add it to the upload stream already. I'll turn the STB off now if it was in the data loop.

[VOOM] Concerning software updates, some long time ago Wilt said...

that the updates would get through to our STBs even if buried
underground as long as they were hooked up to the satellite (no phone
line necessary) whether they were turned "on" or "off" although, I
believe, he did suggest to turn it "off" with the remote before going
to bed as updates are done in the middle of the night and this would
speed it up.

Hmmm...thinking back I don't think he said "even if buried
underground..." but you get the idea.

I think Voom should consider a plan in which if customers that have rented the boxes for say a year, can buy the equipment at a discount... after a year I may decide to keep Voom indefinately but why pay full new price for old used equipment?

Voom guy has to go, Wilt with the next patch can you make him dissappear?

Do you know what Voom's plan or track, they plan on taking with WM9/Mpg4 implementation will improving PQ be a priority? Adding channels?

[VOOM] Firm Ware Upgrade

Is there any news of when the firm ware will be upgraded esp. for OTA channel Maping???

Thanks

PS

Having some real problems with NO SIGNAL during rain and thick clouds. Called VOOM
weeks ago without anyone coming to work on it.

Very Sad service.

[VOOM] Re: Firm Ware Upgrade

They are going to launch the software so the boxes will scan for
themselves. I don't know the time frame involved for everyone to get
the upload or when it will begin. Must be soon, since they told us at
the call center.

Did they schedule you a trouble call or was the tech supposed to call
and schedule? This is unacceptable, you should have been serviced by
now. Please call and see what the hold up is. Sorry you've had a less
than pleasant experience.

[VOOM] Re: Firm Ware Upgrade

I just got a new box replaced and it had ota scanning and the guide
is fixed so when you go back to it, it doesn't go to channel 100.
However, the ota didn't pick up channel 10 and picked up about 10
others I never saw. Channel 10 worked fined even though it didn't get
picked up by the scanning and the one's that did don't work ;-) Not
ready for prime time yet.

Does the new software give you the option for a Manual entry? Maybe your channel 10 is just weak and takes awhile longer to lock in.
