Wow... Called to start service with DISH.... Did not go well....

I contacted Sales department per Matt's (DIRT) suggestion. So I just hung up with an account specialist at the 800#. He started the call with the usual questions, address, type of package. Then came the hopper/joey discussion. I told the rep I was looking for 2 hoppers and 2 joeys. The rep told me that was overkill and his system wouldn't let him place an order like that. I told him I had been researching this and this was the setup we wanted. He then told me to hang on. Came back a few minutes later and said that 1 hopper and 3 joeys would work out fine and preceded to lecture me about how the whole hopper system worked. I explained that there are 1 - 2 nights per week where we have conflicts now and really were hoping for 2 & 2. He then told me I could get a second hopper but it would cost me about 700.00. Again he told me this would be more than enough for me. I told him with 3 tuners, conflicts a few nights a week and two kids, I would prefer the 2 hoppers. He told me if all the tuners were busy, the kids could watch on demand stuff. I told him I needed to talk to my husband and then he suggested we do a 3 way call with my husband on the line. I declined. He seemed irritated and said ok and hung up.

Is the 2 hopper 2 joey request not doable? From everything I read, I was pretty certain this was not a problem.

Not a great first impression. I talked to my hubby who said I should get what I want and told me it was totally my decision to change or stay. I'm REALLY dissapointed and rethinking this change. May be sticking with u-verse....

I have no idea why you would have been given a hard time about the 2nd Hopper. It should simply be a $100 one time upgrade charge to get the 2nd one and other than that the fees are the same as an additional Joey. If you we someone close by I'd come help you out myself. Pretty sure the odds aren't in our favor on that though.

Hope if you decide to try again that you get a more knowledgeable rep on the phone.
 
I would forward your first post to Mat, or any Dirt member for that matter. Yes, I know he directed you to sales, be he (they) need to be aware of what's going on there.

CSR also said they're current promotions were ending today. Still not sure what I am doing...

As far as I know all new customer promotions that are being offered right now are good through January 31st.
 
Call your local dealer to get exactly what you want.

Agree. Also i have found it best to use the on line chat if you have to contact Dish directly i.e. DIRT isn't available or the issue is beyond their scope. On line Chat allows you save a transcript of the conversation which can be helpful.

I always make it a point myself to be well imformed on everything availble when a customer asked about something. The DIRT team here is top notch as well and has helped me out on numerous occasions.

As stated by mdram, don't bother arguing with a CSR. You will quickly know if you are on the right track, if your call is going in the wrong direction thank them, hang up and try again. CSR's all have a different level of experience and expertise and results will always vary. I have previously gone through up to 4 CSR's to resolve a situation. It just isn't worth the aggravation to try and convince them that you are right.

Tell the csr you have 5 TVs. When the installer shows say I only need 4, please make it 2 hops and 2 joeys. And make sure he deactivated the other Joey before he leaves. Your problem will be solved.
