There have been rumors that Crystal Dynamics was not going to be making the next Tomb Raider game. For lots of people, like myself, who really like what they have done with the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise this was a bit of a bummer. Now we finally know why this is happening.

Square Enix and Marvel announced today that they have a multi-game partnership. The first game to come from this partnership will be an Avengers game to be released in 2018 made by Crystal Dynamics and Edios Montreal (Deus Ex).

I'm really excited to see what they can do with the Marvel universe. Crystal Dynamics and Edios Montreal are both doing really good work right now. Hopefully this means we are going to start getting high quality Marvel games on the level of Tomb Raider and Deus Ex (or the Arkham series) and not a cheap cash grab to go with the next Avengers movie.

I will say that I'm not sure about the decision to make the first game an Avengers game. It seems like it would be a lot easier to copy the Arkham series and make a game about one superhero. Instead of making a game about Captain America or Iron Man and trying to make it feel true to the character and their abilities while still being fun to play they have to do that for Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, etc all in one game. If they pull that off it would be an amazing but they are introducing a lot more ways for it to go wrong.

They released another trailer for Mass Effect Andromeda today. This probably isn't a surprise since I have repeatedly said that Mass Effect is my favorite video game series of all time, but I'm fully on board. I got a good deal on my pre-order through Amazon but even if I hadn't I would almost certainly be playing on day one.

I'll probably wait a bit on ME:A. Not that I think ME isn't good (it's great actually) but it's such a crowded release schedule around that time. We also have Horizon: Zero Dawn, Zelda, and South Park right around that release time.

Maybe I'll try that out during the summer around the time of the usual AAA drought.

Sadly this new venture has is not without some sacrifice. Reports are that resources are being shifted from finishing the Deus Ex trilogy to this, meaning that the final chapter may not appear for a long time.

Fallout 4 is getting a high resolution texture pack for PS4 Pro and PC.

Strangely though, the PC recommended requirements are absurdly high.

Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i7-5820K or better
GTX 1080 8GB
8GB+ Ram
You'll also need 58 GB of additional Storage.

Yeah.... I'll be skipping this texture pack. Even if the required specs weren't so high, the 58GB of additional storage on my SSD would not be worth it to me.

The game looks good enough to me as it is. It is no where close to The Witcher 3 in terms of graphics but they are more than good enough for me to enjoy playing the game.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole has been delayed again, but this time no release date has been specified, except that it would be in the next fiscal year. This means that it could come out anytime between April 2017 and March 2018.

I am disappointed but not discouraged. The Stick of Truth was heavily delayed as well but that game turned out fantastic IMO, and was arguably the best licensed game ever made (or at least in the top 5)

Apparently Valve isn't interested in developing games for consoles anymore. To be fair, they don't seem to be that interested in developing games for PC anymore either. The last game Valve released was Dota 2 in 2013. It sounds like, if they ever do L4D3, Portal 3, or Half Life 3 they will probably be exclusive to Steam.
According to Lord Gaben you are wrong.

I'll believe it when I see it. Before Dota 2 in 2013 the last games they put out were CS:GO in 2012, which was a remake of a 12 year old game and Portal 2 in 2011.

I like the games Valve puts out, especially the Portal and L4D games, so I would love to see them get more active in game development again. Their recent output says they are happy to live off Dota 2 and CS:GO's success along with the 30% cut they get of every sale on Steam. As much as I would love a new Portal game it's not hard to blame them when you look at how small the proceeds from that would be when compared to the money that pours in from Steam.

As someone who has invested in VR I hope these full games actually come out. I don't doubt that they would be some of the best VR experiences available.
