My next door neighbor stop me yesterday to tell me that my satellite dish was interfering with their cell phones. He said they have to go to the front of the house away from the dish to get a signal. I have a dish 500 pointed over the top of their house to get 61.5. I think that this is bogus because, all that dish is doing is receiving a signal from the sat, not transmitting.

So am I correct in my assumption??

You are correct. That is the dumbest and most ignorant thing I ever heard. Tell your neighbor, that he's full of it! The reason he has to go to a certain spot to get a signal is the fact, that there is a reception hole from the cell phone tower. This has absolutely nothing to do with your dish. Tell him, he's got the wrong provider, if the signal isn't good enough to provide service in that area.

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!! X's 100

Hmm...sounds to me like a case of HD envy on your neighbor's part? :p

Tell him to wrap his cellphone in the same tinfoil he's using to wrap his head at night to stop the NSA from reading his brain waves.

Go to your neighbor and tell him "I just turned off my satellite dish. Can you try it in the spots near the dish where you had trouble ?". When the problem still occurs, and it will, well, that "proves" your dish isn't to blame. :D

I like that one, because that'll shut him up immediatly! :D

In the immortal words of John McLaughlin of the McLaughlin group ...WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG..
Your satellite system is receive only..It is impssible for you system to create terrestrila interfernce...Tell your neighbor to call his cell company and complain to them....If he insists on badgering you over this, tell him very politely to "have a nice day"..Then hit the couch and drink a beer....Every day I am more convinced that God put people like this neighbor of yours on this planet just to bug the crap out of the rest of us...

That is a good one! On a side note, I had a radar detector once that everytime I pulled into my driveway, it went off. I was about 30 feet infront of the dish. I did trace it to the dish and when powered down, the radar detector was quite!

Heres something!

Put in a Dish at a nursing home about a year ago and they make all the crazy people wear wrist bands with transmitters to "Lock" the ourside doors when the crazy patients came near them because they did not want then escaping and then getting hit by a car.

The satellite receiver was actually interfering with the transmitters on the patients wrist bands and causing the door not to lock.

At first I thought the nursing home was full of it, but it turns out it was the cause of the interference.

I had to move the receiver about 100 feet away in the janitors office and had to pay for an IR repeater system to make it work.

The nursing home tried to get the patient that got the Dish to change rooms away from the door that was causing the problem, but she was too fat and moving rooms would mean a longer walk to the bathroom and the cafeteria! Im not kidding, this is what the patient told us when we asked her what she wanted to do.

But other than that, I can't see the Dish interfering with a cell phone!

was quite? don't leave us hanging.

Radar detector work in same Ka band as dishes LO (local oscillators ):
10750 MHZ, 11250 MHz, 13500 MHz and 14350 MHz,
if there leaking the LO signal from LNBF, then other RF devices could 'hear' it.
Receiver itself radiate RF signal in wide range, but should follow FCC rules and have very low power outside the box.
So keep its top closed in case of interference with other devices.

Thanks guys for all of the answers. This has really been entertaining! I think I will setup a few more dishes in their direction if he complains some more! :D
