Two canceled Dish installs - what to do?

I was scheduled to have Dish installed last Tuesday (AEP, HD, VIP 722, 1000.2). The installer called me an hour after the install window and said he had to cancel. No warning, he just canceled an hour AFTER he should have been at my house. I called the central office, and they made me wait another two hours just to tell me that nobody will be showing up that day. Great - one day of vacation gone.

I rescheduled for Saturday morning, and the guy shows up without the VIP 722. He tries to tell me that the 622 is the same. Yeah, right -- except for half the storage.

I had to reschedule again for next Saturday morning, since I won't risk taking another day off from work without them showing up.

My question: is there any trick to actually getting Dish to show up when they say they will with the equipment I ordered? Any suggestions for me? I'm in Cleveland, Ohio. If anybody knows of a decent local installer, please let me know. I'm about done with Dish...

I had the same problem a couple years ago. I ended up calling a local retailer who had their own installers and verified availability. I then called DISH and insisted that my work order be transferred to that retailer.

That's the Reader's Digest version of a nightmare install story, but it worked.

If it was me, I would've been tempted to let the installer install the 622...and THEN b*tch and moan to Dish about getting a 722 upgrade...FOR FREE (assuming that you're coming in as a new customer). At least you could have gotten over the hump and had most of the hard work taken care of.

At this point, Dish probably considers the 622 and 722 completely "equal" to one another. They are both dual-tuner HD-DVRs.

Best option is to schedule for the 1st slot of the day, the 8am to ?? time. That way there's no installs before it that can delay the installer.

wje100, your story is almost word for word the same as mine! Same deal. First visit no 722, just 622 and them saying it's the same thing.

Cancel your deal with Dish or whomever the sales partner you bought from. Then go to the Dish network website. Click on "find a retailer"...Enter your zip code..Call the retailers nearest you. Local people are much better to deal with...That's a fact..
A note about 622vs 722..The recivers are identical except for the hard drive..Here is the business rule regarding these two STB's....If a work order has a 722 to be installed, the tech MUST install a 722..A 622 is NOT an acceptable substitute. You made the right choice by running off the tech..
Use a local retailer. Check them out..Go to their office and check out their showroom and the rest of their place..I work for a retailer, we do that...

Thanks for the tip. I will do that Tuesday morning after the holiday.

But, can local retailers offer the same deal? The local retailer tells me know. I need two dishes (1000+ and 500) for all the channels I want. The 500 is for 61.5 that the Pentagon channel comes in on. The Pentagon channel is in the AEP and I think it should be installed free. When I emailed the CEO office and asked them they said to call and they would fix me up. The same story I got when I called the toll free number to sign up. Does anyone out there know why the retailers can't offer the same deal? Are they restricted or something from Dish to install the second dish to be paid for by Dish? I know some of the International channels will give you the second dish, but I am not interested in them. The Pentagon channel is listed in the 100 pack so both Dish and the local retailer should include it in the install. I do not want Dishes contractors to do the job because problems mentioned in this thread and numerous other horror stories I have read and I want to be able to call someone quick if I have troubles.

The local retailers should be able to offer the same exact deal!

The issue with the Pentagon channel is the same thing as if you wanted to order KBS World which is a Korean channel as part of the Top 100 channel package...

Notice where it says "Additional fees may apply" where they mention the 2nd Dish on the website...

Yes, its available but you need the correct Dish to pick it up which is not part of a standard installation, even if you go directly through DISH Network.

To complicate things even further you got another issue because your looking at 5 orbital Locations with the configuration you want

119 - Core
110 - Core
118 - HD Locals from St. Louis
129 - Regional Sports Network
61.5 - Pentagon Channel

Your either going to have to give up 129 or 61.5, since a standard installation will not let you switch the cable like me and you discussed last week.

Even if I where to sell this through the Dishstore, the question would be how would I even write it up in the system. I can put an international channel on the account to force a 61.5 install, but there is nothing that is a stand alone subscription on 129 that would force a 129 install.

If a retailer really wanted to they could give you the other Dish for Free, but its just going to eat into their bottom line. Dish can't re-imburse us for the 2nd Dish in these situations because of the potential of retailer fraud. Think about it, you do a standard DISH 1000.2 install for an HD customer. You say your installing the pentagon channel for the customer and need 61.5, and now they are re-imbursing the dealer $99 for a 2nd Dish and $175 for a DPP44 Switch for a total of $275.

If that was the case I would sell the pentagon channel to everyone and not install the 2nd Dish, and the customer wouldn't know better because in all my years and signing up over several thousand customers, I only had one customer call me and request the pentagon channel.

When you go to a subscription channel like international programming, the proof that you actually installed the Dish is the customer paying for the additional programming. No customer is going to pay for programming they cannot get, and if for some reason they pay for the channel and they do not get it they will then call into Dish and complain and they know something is up with the installation

Yes I would go with a local retailer.

Thanks Claude, I understand it now. Also thanks for calling me last week. Wish you were located in my area. You sound like a top notch retailer and sure offer super good deals for satelliteguys.

I wish there was a way to get Howard Stern on demand like I get with Charter Cable. Going to miss him when I have DishTV installed this week.

Right, the rumour/hearsay is the 722 has Broadcom's latest chip, which supports VC-1, which is allegedly what they will use for VOD.

Penatgon Channel..Offerd only on wing dishes(61.5)..The retailer I work for would have to charge you for the extra dish because Dish will not reimburse for the additional dish..We would have to eat the cost of the dish and the necessary switch..So unfortuinately since the channel you want isn't on the core sats(110/119) we have more hardware to install and the tech has to be paid for their work....I will post to Claude with an idea....Keep looking here..Don't throw in the towel just yet

Claude, installer for reatiler here..I have an ida that may just get our friend who wants the penatgon channel....See what ytou think of this....Suppose this customer had no LOS to 129 and thus a wing dish had to be installed...he is getting HD is he not?..If he needs HD then the 61.5 wing is the second dish which should be covered...Just looking to help the guy out...

Thanks for the help dishcomm. Claude called me last week and tried to explain things to me. I didn't take in everything he said, but today he has cleared it up in this thread. I don't mind paying for the second dish. It is just the principle thing that erks me. If a channel is listed in Dishes packages then they should provide it, even if it requires a second dish. For my zip code and all the packages I want I need all four LNBs on a 1000+. It is bad enough that i will have to manually switch the 61.5 and 129 coax at the DPP44 switch depending on what we want to watch. But, I am willing to do that. I think Dish needs to build a Super DPP44 switch that can handle 5 or more satellites. I think that is where the real problem lies with DishTV. Thanks again.
