Would appreciate knowing the differences(if any) between these two models.

Thanks

I have 2 of each. Basically, they are the same. The 700 is made by Pace and the 100 is made by Thompson (RCA). The 700 has air vents on top and the 100 air vents are on the side (and actually runs a little cooler). Other than that, both models are essentially the same.

The -700 has a 300 GB HD
The -100 has a 320 GB HD...
there are others posted here, as I posted several of them somewhere out here just the other day, Friday I think and other joined in with differences....

Try the search and you'll probablly find that thread ;)

I have the 100. So let's see, if I use the E* subscriber's thought process, mine must be the best. Yup, that's right. the 100 is definitely the one to have and all you 700 owners (leasers) are chumps.

Here is the difference Sumary:

RF Inside - HR20-700
RF Outside - HR20-100
Coax/Toslink Digital Audio - HR20-100
Toslink Digital Audio Only - HR20-700
300 GB - HR20-700
320 GB - HR20-100
2 Ethernet Jacks - HR20-100
1 Ethernet - HR20-700
Vent on bottom - HR20-100
Vent on Top - HR20-700
Hotter unit - HR20-700
Cooler Unit - HR20-100

Software is the same but HR20-700 has more Living on the Edge releases so it tests more then the -100 club. I have them working right next to each other and have no preference. The only thing I can see that would make one more then the other is the Digital Audio outs. The HR20-100 has more options (Coax and Toslink).

The one thing I noticed yesterday when I was hooking up Ethernet to my 100 and 700 is that the locations are different on the back. I did the 100 and then flipped around my 700 expecting it to be in the same location but it was the other side.

People have complained about the blue circle on the front but the 700 one doesn't bother me. I had to tone down the 100 though.

You do know that the blue lights can be eliminated, yes? Push the buttons on the side of the circle simultaneously. Four times and the light goes out!

Can you stack another STB on top of the 100 without worrying about heating issues?

Its on a wire rack but I got in this order stack from top to bottom.

H20-600 - TOP
File Folder Separator
HR20-700
HR10-250
HR20-100 - BOTTOM

I do pump in air periodically as it does get hot in my basement but I placed them in order of the venting. The bottom one goes out to the bottom, the Tivo out the back and the -700 out of top hence the separator between that and the H20. Been like this for 3 months now. Works. I keep 2 eSATA drives on a different shelf.

Dang Brewer, you got enough boxes :p

And I thought I was bad with D* HR-20, Dish 921, Comcast HD boxes hooked to 1 TV, Brewer you got me beat!!!
I'll admit, I did cancel the cable and had Fios installed. My wife, well...what she doesn't know won't hurt me too much until she finds out....

That doesnt even show the Vista Media Center on the other side of the wall. :D Keep in mind, I can watch any of the boxes in any room at any time. With 2 Slingboxes, anywhere in the world. How slick is that? :)
