Dish Network Big 10 Notice

I don't recall E*'s position on this, but I suspect it's the same as with our local Comcast situation where BTN is insisting that it be carried on extended basic AND that every sub. in that tier and higher pay an additional $1.10 per month for it. I for one can get to see plenty of Big 10 sports with the currently available E* programming, more than I can watch. (A fair number of both men's and women's B-Ball games are carried on our local PBS channel.) Until it's offered at no additional cost (fat chance!) I'm all for making it a PPV or single-subscription channel. (How much is actually HD content at this time?)

I agree with many of you. I am a subscriber to E* and could care less about getting all the niche sports channels that I probably won't watch. I can find more than enough sports now that I can possibly watch. If E* subscribers want all the sports channels and want to pay for them switch to D* and stop whining in these threads. It's just that simple.

If you don't like the whining move on to another thread. As we have said before changing services is not all that easy and many of us like the 622 instead of the HR20.

It's also not about wanting all the sports channels. In this case I want the Hawkeyes that I've grown up following my entire life. If you don't like the thread discusion you can STOP reading it!

Grew up in Ohio and moved to Texas 3 years ago. Was purchasing the ESPN package to catch Big 10 games. Dropped that this year and now have no way to catch many of the games including the recent loss by Michigan. Being that I am an Ohio State fan I would have loved it!

I know you hear it all of the time but when my current 18 months are up, I will have to seriously consider the switch to Direct. My wife and I are both football fans and both from Ohio. Getting very hard to stay with Dish even though I have been happy with them for over 5 years because I cannot catch any teams from up north on a weekly basis.

I am like TS Duke. I have had all the football and basketball games in the past and now we have Dish Network and the Big Ten Network playing hardball with each other .... while all the loyal customers go without. I am tired of the idiots telling us to switch. I have had Dish for seven years and really like their hardware and really want to remain a loyal customer. But I am tired of the games being played and people like TS Duke and myself having something taken away that we had in the past.... all the Hawkeye games!

Most of that notice seems misleading, but this sentence seems like an outright lie:
The good news is that DISH Network customers who are Big Ten fans will get most of their games with the current channels available on DISH network – at no additional cost.

If I understand the situation, BTN wants $1.10 and basic cable carriage in big ten states and $0.10 and any tier carriage elsewhere. I think E* is absolutely right in labeling BTN as an RSN and it should be treated as such. I think E* should pay the $1.10 in big ten states since the network is an important RSN in those areas that will add customers and retain customers. Elsewhere, it could be put in the Multi-sport package and help sell that package.

In any case, I think E* is wasting their money with this advertising. They can't really be fooling anyone.

This is horrible. If charlie is too cheap to add this to the regular programming tier why not allow us to get it in the multi-sport package or alacart. This is ridiculous. They act like their giving us new sports programming when all it is is the regular channels everyone else already gets. Who knows how many ohio state games football and basketball included i will miss because of this. I would switch to directv but i am locked in my contract with dish until next summer.

People are actually recommending directv over dish because of this. If your any kind of a sports fan i recommend you stay away from dish. First it was mlb extra innings and the baseball channel. Now it's big ten channel. What's going to be next? If i wasn't locked into an 18 month commitment i would switch. I will seriously consider switching come next summer.

There was a full page ad taken out in our local newspaper touting Dish Network's coverage of Big Ten Football. It basically had the same hype that appeared in Scott's original message.

It went on to "highlight" E*'s Big Ten Game of the Week. What a bunch of...

They may be able to get away with it during football season where several Big Ten games can be seen on ABC, ESPN, etc.... but, when basketball rolls around I'd like to see how they turn that lemon into lemonade. It appears that about two-thirds of each Big Ten teams games will be televised on the BigTen Network. How's Charlie going to spin that one?!

It's a huge insult to Big Ten Fans to be bombarded with that somewhat misleading advertising. Save your money Charlie. Better yet, use that money spent on misleading people and actually use it to give viewers what they want!

I really do understand where Charlie is coming from on their stance .... but to deceive customers like this is in really poor taste. Agree with Orange and Blue on what is Charlie going to say during basketball season .... my Hawks are on 17 times.

There was also a slide that Comcast was running in the Twin Cities area on channel 255 listing it as the channel set aside for BTN.

I'm starting to wonder if it will become a situation like YES, or if it will become another situation like Victory Sports One.....

If Charlie does not want to add this channel for what ever reason that’s up to him, after all he is the CEO but if that many subs really want that channel {BTN/YES/MLB-EI etc.} then at least try and work with those folks in getting out of those long ass contracts. Cut the early termination in half or something like that. Also by the way the HR-20 has come a long way as well FYI only. Good luck on your fight, hopefully both sides will give a little and you all will be set before the OSU vs. Michigan game.{last game of the year}At least that one should be nationally televised ???

Hawkeye fan here too, I am giving Dish till Basketball season and hopefully this crap gets worked out by then but if not i may have to switch and pay my remaining months on the contract. The Btn should have had some sort of pay per view setup like gameplan to give fans at least an option to get games cause they had to know the Btn was going to be a hard sell.

Hawkeye fan HERE!, I too am holding out till Basketball Season. Thank you to who ever posted the facts about how many Iowa/Big Ten B-Ball games were on the BTN.
I don't care what it costs to get out of my contract at this point, a CLEAR message needs to be sent to BOTH the BTN and E*, that we are passionate fans in the Big Ten, PLUS this might discourage other Conferences from joining this mayhem!

I'm a Boilermaker and I'm doing the same: holding out until basketball season and hopefully Dish will pick up the BTN. I love my 622 and I have never had DirecTV's version, but it doesn't sound like an equal piece of equipment at all.

Dish is really ticking me off telling everyone how much Big Ten football they have when I sat in my chair last Saturday and had (1) Big Ten game at 11AM to watch while (4) other scores are flashing up from the other Big Ten games going on. I finally went to BWW to watch the Michigan vs ASU game and the others....and spent $15 on a food and drink that I really didn't need.

So looking back, Dish took my CBSHD New York from me (in addition to my CBS out of Chicago) due to their legal troubles with the networks. Now they won't give me the BTN and are not giving me any updates to what is going on. Also, DirecTV has the NFL Sunday Ticket (which Dish doesn't have) and don't forget the NCAA March Madness package thats exclusive to DirecTV!! This is a lot of ammo to switch although I hate to lose my 622 and go through the hassle. Basketball season will be the deciding factor.

When threads are started about E* not picking up such and such channel or package, or dropping a channel, because it costs too much, and Charlie's saving all his customers money, I wonder, how much money is he really saving E* subs? Looking a a page on Mr. Longs web site, http://jameslong.name/compare.html, it looks like some E* packages do save a few dollars, some cost more, some just about the same. With all the costs savings Charlies doing I would have expected all the packages to cost much less then D* packages which seem to pick up those high priced channels/packages that Charlie passes on.

Just to let you know, the games that you use to pick up on your local PBS won't be there NO MORE, that's what a lot of people aren't realizing, the picking and choosing by your local cable or over-air channels is done. The BTN has put a stop to all that.
I understand your feelings but just thought I would let you know

Why do the ETHICAL thing and be up front with there subscribers, just string them along a little while longer.
