What PCI do you recommend

My Question is which PCI Card to you recommend? And Why?

I have a Twinhan 102G.

I like it very much, I use my STB to blind scan and input the information into the Twinhan.

The Twinhan with a software player (Progdvb, DvbDream, Mytheater, TSreader) and correct codecs can decode just about any video format (4:2:2 and HD come to my mind (MPEG4 but I have not done that yet )).

The only disadvantages are it can not pick up DVB-S2(Not much up there yet), 8PSK(Not much up there yet), and DolbyE audio (Only professional equipment can).

Overall I like my Twinhan 102G because of its capabilities and compatibility with all the software players I have tried.

My vote is for the 1020a as well. Works well with every DVB program I've thrown at it.
If you are wanting to do some of the HD fta stuff as well as 4:2:2 video, then it depends
on how powerful a computer you will be using it with. The Twinhan is just a tuner and does no
on-board proccessing. So, with the right hardware (cpu & video card) along with the right codec's, you can use it to watch "almost" everything that is available FTA.

1020a as well. It works with a lot of software including a DSS one.

FWIW I have a Geniatech 103G (Digiwave, 4 weeks experience) and a Skystar 2 2.6 (two weeks). The skystar cost me twice as much as the 103G after shipping. The 103G gave me a lot of problems at first but now has settled down. Heck I even had both cards in one box and the new ProgDVB V.5 could see and manipulate both of them.

Of the two I would most easily let go of the Skystar. Mainly because it does not have the tuning capacity of the 103G, and the 103G has an RCA video input which is mighty handy for displaying video from my Coolsat. The skystar does have some satellite internet capacity which will come in handy soon and evidently is more widely supported by software.

I don't think either of the cards is the best for general DXing FTA, but each has its strengths.

No, that is a TV tuner, not a satellite card. Just search for Twinhan 1020a on ebay.

The codec is what enables 4.2.2, Try Elecard.

That card is for over the air digital only not satellite. It will say that it does dvb-s in the description if does satellite.

If I remember right Nexus doesn't do 4:2:2 or HD in hardware mode though, so basically you've got a software card just like the others again.

I have a skywalker-1 its supposed to support dvb-s2 but I havent had a chance to test it on anything yet. there isnt alot on ku, and the ones Ive tried I couldnt lock onto, my 1m just wasnt enough I guess. skywalker-1, genpix, and dvbtech, all support dss and DGII though, I use the DGII for HITS, works great.

AFAIK, The skywalker does not support DVB-S2.

If I remember right the drivers for the DVBTech don't support DSS.

What exactly is it you want to do with the card?
Most any of the Twinhans, SkyStar, or even the 103thing will probably do the job.

There's nothing currently S2 around here, I don't believe.
And nobody on this forum needs DSS support.
So, in my opinion, both those are moot points.

The Nexus is only attractive and valuable to a slim portion of the market.
It is certainly not universally "best" by any stretch of the imagination, unless you are trying to run on an old gutless computer.
So decide if you need/want it or not and move on.

Once you have chosen the software you want to run, use the supported-cards list to pick a receiver card.
That's bit me in the butt at least once!

DSS support and that's it.

Any card can do 4:2:2 if you have the right software. Remember all the card does is tune the signal and pass the 1's and 0's to the software. It's up to the software to turn it into video.
