I haven't seen anyone say a firm date. D* had hoped to have it up back in July, I think the latest guess I say from a D* release was by the end of September but I don't think they'll make that date either. But why wait to hook it up, if you were going to do it anyway why not do it now so you'd be ready to go and maybe try a CE release that might include the enabling code again.

i'm running the cat5 to hook up my HR20 tonight so hopefully it'll be up and running shortly thereafter. is it too late to download the CE and get DoD? i think i read that the time had come and gone but i don't remember. i'm pretty new to all of this so please explain it so that an idiot (myself) can understand. :)

It's too late for this round. DirecTV enabled the Beta Video-on-Demand to a group of people downloading a specific CE release, with networking enabled, and who were previous CE participants. I guess they did not want to have a large number of people who were simply looking just to get VOD, they wanted people who were already involved in the CE program.
To be ready for next time, you should enable the internet connection, and start participating in the CE program, if you are willing to accept the risks.

where can we find the CE program to participate in it? sorry, i just got this dvr and haven't heard of this thanks.

Just purchase one of the following devices or one that does the same thing. You only need to setup the device to attach to your wireless network and then plug your HR20 into it by a Ethernet cable.

I prefer the Buffalo Ethernet converter over the other since it adds 4 Ethernet ports for the same a a little less of the cost.

Buffalo Technology - Products - Wireless-G MIMO Performance* Ethernet Converter

Wireless Gaming Adapter - DWL-G820 Wireless Gaming Adapter by D-Link

Linksys.com - Products/Wireless/Entertainment/Game Adapters/WGA54G

If I set this up, will this take the place of my phone connection? In other words, can I remove the phone connection and get my HR20-700 DVR program grid updated nightly over the wireless connection?

I have a wireless N network. Can I use a wireless N ethernet converter like the Buffalo product, assuming such a thing exists?

Your HR20 does not use the phone connection for guide data, it comes from the satellite. The phone is only used for PPV ordered thru the remote.

Any of the above will work I have the Buffalo one and it works great.
