Hey everyone,

Has the "HD Lite" issue been fixed? or is there any plan to in the future or or is DTV just going to cram as many "HD" channels as possible and save bandwidth for even more channels in the future?
I had DTV about 6 months ago and noticed the HD picture was not as good as what I had previously (Mediacom)...and I got a good deal to switch back so I did. Now I regret it because from all indications new HD channels in my area will not be added anytime soon.

Thanks,
-Aaron

If past performance is any indicator, I would say when the new channels light up they'l be great and good and pristine, and as time goes by they'll get worse and worse as D* adds more HD. That would be my guess. Unless the new owners have decided to take D* in a whole new direction.

However, be advised, that this is just my opinion. I could be wrong, I have been before...:)

The test channels that were up this weekend looked very good by most accounts. There is enough bandwidth available so that there should be no issues with pq for a very long time.

I wonder if that will change with the 30 more for a total of 100 by the end of the year? Anyways, I may have to pay the cancellation fee and switch back... why have a plasma for like 10 HD channels :) Thanks for your information guys.

Isn't that the same thing that E*'s been doing, started out at 1920 and start cutting back to 1440 to gain back bandwidth?

I don't get why they need to cut the resolution.
They just need to increase the compression level at the same resolution.
This will fool the HD-lite pundits who think that all HDTV picture quality has to do with is the resolution of the picture.
That full-resolution HDTV picture on cable or FiOS is NOT the same picture quality as the OTA signal. It is transcoded to a different compression level. Not only that it is transmitted with a different symbol rate on QAM instead of the original 8VSB used by OTA.
