A thread risen from the dead...:p

I just hooked up a DSR530 and I want to make sure of a few facts. I thought the DSR530 was a single tuner DVR but I'm told it's a dual-tuner DVR.

Anyway, it has 2 SAT inputs on the rear so I hooked up another line from the dish. Problem is, in the status screen it shows Tuner 2 "N/A" with zero readings for signal strength. Tuner No. 1 shows "S" and has readings for the signal.

Have I hooked it up right? There's 4 outputs on the LNB and I tried all of them, well, the 3 that were vacant. Is it truly a dual-tuner DVR? Could it be that the dish needs re-alignment to grab the signals for the second tuner?

TIA

until you have a hit from the programming provider (or through the broker if you go that way) tuner 2 will show no signal.

You do need 2 lines from the LNB to the box.

And for anyone with a similar problem that may be reading this thread, here's a little more background info:

The "Dual Tuner" of the SC530 is a dedicated line for "live tv" and a dedicated line for recording. Each one has it's own tuner. If you plug in one jack and get a signal, you've plugged in the Live TV line. Plugging in the other is for recording, so to test it, you should attempt to record some programme, such as a few minutes of Live TV. Even though the Live TV is decoded on your screen, the SC530 must use the second tuner to make the recording. Thus, this allows you to test the "Second Tuner". Once you record some, check the DVR list and see if you have a recorded video (good) or a blank video (bad). If bad, you need a rehit as described by Iceberg.

Thanks for the info. Tuner No. 2 finally shows signal strength today.

So if I understand correctly, essentially, Tuner 2 is for recording which allows you to watch something else on the "Live TV" tuner, you can only record one channel at a time, correct?

Couldn't find another relative thread, so this will work just as well I guess.

Is there a way to setup a "Season Pass" on the DSR530? If there is, I'm not seeing it.

Thanks.

Also, how far out is the guide data supposed to go? Mine currently goes out to Wed the 27th and then it goes to no data, is that right?

5XX units can support 14 days, 207 + 317 7 days. Legacy receivers have only enough memory to hold 3 days.

SC has said that they will offer a second guide at some point for the new receivers.

I don't think Jumbo is correct. I have a 530 with the new guide and mine only goes out 48 hrs or so...

Slightly OT, am I the only one having problems receiving Fox 11 HD out of Detroit?

I'm not getting it either. I noticed these sorts of blackouts during the 8PSK migration, but that should be all complete by now.

Has your 530 always been like that? I never noticed it before because I never really recorded much on it, but it seems to me the guide did go out farther than 2 days previously.

This is not a new guide - only the GUI on the 505/530s changed.

As has already been posted, the original guide 7 years ago went out 7 days. But as more and more channels were added, the # of days decreased as to not overload Legacy receivers.

At some point, SC will launch the new guide for 5XX/207/315 receivers that will max out the # of days.
