I have an install set for this saturday between 6-8. I was originally scheduled for next monday so I logged into directv (bellsouth gave me my account number) and change my install date. I recieved a confirmation e-mail, now directv online shows (no install date scheduled please call). I called, and they said if I got an e-mail confirmation then I am scheduled. I am a bit nervous about a no-show, any ideas? How do I find the number of the installer? I am in Asheville NC, near Greenville Spartaburg SC. Does this sound like a valid time window to you?

Best bet is to call D* again and request the local info for your installer. Call them, go over the time and date, equipment to be brought, and special circumstances (Poll Mount, special brackets, extra wire needed...)
This is the best way to be sure you are getting what you want / need on time. As far as a valid time window, I'm in Dayton, OH and we have appts starting at 6-8 as well. I'd assume it's a standard requirement in order to be an installer with D*, but don't quote me on that.

6-8's happen. Not my cup of tea...

When the 6-8 appointment window came out, it was to be for service calls only. D* then stopped doing them a couple of months ago. I wasn't aware you could even schedule an appointment for that time frame still.

Depends on where you are. Down east Maine is light, but Detroit is dark. Same time zone!

Well he will have to work in the dark for a 1/2 hr or so given that they arrive by 6am

Most likely for the tech to show up closer to 8 than 6.Don't be surprised if he shows up later than that, depending when they get their routes, look for equipment, and drive time.

Advanced Technology = MASTEC....you'll see.

I was about to sign on with Ironwood and the very last thing they mentioned was, "Oh, by the way we have a time slot system for appointments......the new guys get more of the 6-8AM slots.

That was a deal breaker. I have worked early and late but I get the extra charge for rising at dark and a half to get a dish up before the kids leave for school. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Report if he shows.

Joe

I play the law of averages...

I've had two 6a-8a service calls since 9/14 and both times the installer called at 745a and showed up at 8:10. He was out the door both times before 9 and I was at work by 930ish.

It beats the heck out of the 8a-noon or 1p-5pm time blocks.

If only they'd get my pixelation issue corrected on my two HD receivers (HR20-700 and H20). The image keeps freezing ever since I upgraded to the DVR and slimline 5LNB dish.

I had my HR20 installed last week on a 6-8am appt on a Wednesday. Dude didn't show up until 8:30 though which is typical of every D* installer that's ever been to my house (aka, NEVER on time).

Well Installer came by at 10:30! He apologized was a real nice guy but certainly not up in his knowledge. He has never installed an HR20, in fact noticed he was using the existing single line to my 622 for line. I asked him if he was multiplexing the signal to combine for both tuners, he looked confused and said yeah. Well anyway, I told him we need two dedicated lines running to the HR20, he said its not on the work order. I said okay, how much if I pay for it (he was talking about having D* authorize the extra line and making a trip back another time) and he told me $25 per line extra line. I said "do it". Well then he starts installing the receiver in my living room and as I am hooking it up I notice no Ethernet and only one Tuner input on the back. I then quickly glanced over at the sticker only to notice it says H20. I said "this is the wrong receiver". He gets out his work order, and it he says look, it says HD/DVR. I said "yeah this is an HD receiver without the DVR!" He looked very confused. He called his supervisor and he says yeah you need an HR20. So anyway, by this point its already about 2pm. He then leaves, gets back around 3:30, we make sure all the receivers are on etc, do the activation. All said and done he was a nice guy but now how I planned my day. He did manage to get D* to activate a used SDDVR40 I bought on e-bay, which I thought I had to replace the card. He did run two separate lines to that one and he charged me $25 for the one line. Also as I set up the receiver he told me not to select 5lnb dish and to select 3, (I am no pro) but I said "isn't that a 5 lnb dish you just installed and he said no. I selected 5 anyway, and everything checked out well. I ended up giving him $35 for his efforts, he was really nice and still kept his cool and realized the receiver mix up was his error. Finally he left at 4:30 to finish his two jobs he had left, poor guy!
