Any free downloadable content on DishOnline?

Before I go to all the trouble of getting my 622 on my home network, what kind of programming is available for downloading? In particular, is there anything that is free? One of the nice things about Comcast's OnDemand service is that there is tons of free stuff - especially children's programming. Anything similar on Dish? Is there a way to see somewhere on the 'net what can be downloaded? The info at DishOnline.com isn't clear at all and the info video that Dish put on my 622 didn't answer the question.

Actually, under TV Entertainment, there are about four free VOD items right now. Pretty pathetic. Dish is going to need to amp this up big time if they want to compete with Comcast's massive free OnDemand offerings.

There's a lot of potential but not much value at this point. As ptuck874 pointed out, a handful of OLD SD movies (some classics, though) is about it. The free VOD consists of a small handful of recently aired programs (most of which I already recorded and/or watched). There are some cool features available now, though. There are a bunch of on-line games (some free) that you can play (but frankly, I'll use my computer to play games, not my TV - besides, aiming the remote at the TV to select or move a game piece is a real pain). There are a number of other interactive services available, but none that are really ready for "prime time".

As for the VOD, I wonder how long it will be before Comcast (and other cable providers) start filtering the VOD like they are doing with bit-torrent files?

At least Verizon gets it:

Verizon continues to build upon their fiber optic network by rolling out 75 HD VOD titles to the following markets; Richmond, Virginia Beach, Tampa, Fort Wayne, and Pittsburgh; and coming soon to Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, and Rhode Island -- everyone else has to wait till sometime next year. There will be a mix of free content and the latest movies (for a fee). FiOS VOD is uniqe in that it is IPTV based, so instead of being delivered via QAM (like the rest of their programming) it shares bandwidth with your Internet connection.

So, Dish - IPTV based and it's FREE content and it's HD content. Get with it.
