Am considering either a Harmony 880 or 720 to use with my
622, Sony TV, receiver and DVD player.
Can the Harmony remote be setup to do the
PIP and Swap functions that are on the 622?
Thanks.

Yes. I had to add the commands to the remote setup. I used the stock settings and the skip fwd and back were not configured either. Once I added them all is well. I have seen where there may be more than one 622 confg file and some button assignments are different. I have a 680, by the way.

The 880 works great with my Vip 622, Sony TV, Sony HTIB, etc. Spending a little time spend upfront getting it configured correctly was well worth it.....

I have the Harmony 880 that I used with my 942 and I have had zero problems with it controlling my new ViP622. Like Cosmo sez, spending time setting up the Harmony on their website is well worth it.

Just to add confusion to your decision, I have a One For All 8820 learning remote that will control every function for my 942, my Yamaha 5890 , Mits. 55807, etc...
And it cost about $15. I love these remotes!

880 is IR only. Last I heard, there is no UHF on the market that will control the ViP622.

I recently picked up the 550 model from Amazon for an after rebate price of $69.

I configured it the other night for my 942, HK AVR-525, Sony DVD, Sony HDTV and Xbox 360 and everything seems to work great so far.

Tip: When choosing your Dish unit using the Harmony software, select ECHOSTAR, not Dish Network, as the vendor and then enter 942 as the model number. If you choose Dish Network as the vendor you may have issues configuring the remote.

Now a push a single button and my TV, receiver and Xbox 360 power up and my 942 powers down when switching from watching TV to gaming. Press Watch DVD and the Xbox 360 shuts down and the DVD powers up. Press Watch TV and the DVD powers down and the 942 powers up.

Very neat and keen for $69.

I absolutely love my 880.

I have a Sony Grand WEGA LCD TV, JVC Receiver, Dish 622, and a DVD player.

The 880 works great. I actually set up the chapter forward/back hard buttons for the DVR skip 30, back 10 functions. They still work normally when I am watching a DVD or VHS.

The 880 is infrared, but the 890 is UHF. I think the UHF version comes with an IR repeater for infrared. Check out remotecentral.com for detailed reviews. I was thinking about getting an 890 for my bedroom, to control both my 211, and also TV2 from my 622 in the living room. The consensus on remote central was that the 890 is overpriced relative to the 880, and most recommend that you shop for a separate UHF/IR repeater system. They say that there are very good ones available for less than the cost difference between the 880 & 890 - plus if you ever change remotes again down the road you will already be set up for UHF.

The only gripe most have with the 880 is small buttons, and a hokey charging cradle. They warranteed my cradle, and the new one seems to work fine. The small buttons you just have to live with. After several years with an MX-500 I will take the small buttons any time.

Logitech has the best customer support in the computer industry. They actually answer the phone, talk to you, and help to work out your problems. I had one other problem with the tilt switch not starting the backlight, and they walked me through resetting the remote to get it working again, but were ready to ship me another remote if we couldn't get it going.

Also - I just bought my future son-in-law an 880 for Christmas. I got a great deal from Dell - with shipping & tax it was $142.

You won't find it for that price on Dell's website though. You have to do a price comparison on pricegrabber or some similar site for the best Dell price to show up.

Not sure if they always offer it, but I have bought 2 from them now, and got the lower price both times.

Only problem I have with the 880 is putting the tv on sleep mode and having the 211 reboot in the middle of the night. The 880 thinks both are on when you go to use it the next day. The help button fixes the problem. Still trying to figure out how to program a button to "turn off" the units.

I believe some of the Harmony remotes do offer RF support, but I believe that is limited to communicating with a Harmony extender. I have not yet seen a verified report which confirms you can actually directly control a Dish receiver via RF/UHF with anything except a Dish UHF remote.

You may be able to place a Harmony extender / wireless controller in view of the remote Dish receiver, communicate to the extender via RF, and then it would send commands via IR to the receiver.

The only problem I'm having with my 890 has nothing to do with my 622. I have three Toshiba components ( HD-DVD, DVD Recorder, DVD-A) and when I send commands to one of them I see it doing things to the other components as well.
I have it programmed for the specific devices but they seem to share command signals.

Any computer programmable, hard button remote is a necessity IMO. I have a Home Theater Master 850 and it's the best $200 i ever spent on my HT. Macros and every button customizable is the greatest. If you prefer a lot of hard buttons check out the HTM 850, but the harmony is good too

Did you ever find any information on the sleep issues. I emailed customer support but no response in 3 days. In sum, it seems like the Harmony remote can't keep track of which devices are on and off if you use the sleep feature. This is disappointing as I use sleep all the time.

No. The PS3 uses Bluetooth. But there are aftermarket devices that will "convert" - although currently without the power on/off function.

See the other threads on this for more info.
