Don't mean to start any crap, but just wondered of anyone about how STARS is progressing. I was thrown out of another site when I questioned their so-called leaders and I have yet to see a post in here about it. Just wondering, I know Scott was quite vocal about it on the transmitter news.

Uhm? What is "STARS"?

STARS was started as a group representing satellite installers and retailers as sort of a union. Supposedly to help all who joined, all they ever accomplished was collecting money for dues and fees and nothing else.

Ah, I remember reading something about that a while back. I haven't seen anything else about it though.

Last I heard was one or two mortgages got paid off from the dues.

I don't doubt it. The so called leader of the group has a history of getting others to pay him for ideas he claims will save the industry. Just another group of guys who can't pay their own bills but claim that if you pay them, they will help you make more money to pay yours.

So far the only thing they are trying to do is make rules so that members can not talk badly in public about Stars.

But as far as doing anything together to help the industry they haven't done a damn thing.

Stars is a joke.

Hell the members are not even active there. :D

I sent the so-called leader of the group. Vegas satellite as he is known, or his real name Joel Munn, an e-mail the other day politely asking him some simple questions. He responded by saying that the group will not answer any questions until after you sign up and pay the fees. He then went into a tirade about people picking on him and the group as a whole.

His answers made me want to just jump up and join as soon as I could.:D

Joel Munn has to be one of the most pathetic leaders I have ever run into. He whines like a little girl whenever someone picks on him (And they are not even picking on him, they are just asking valid questions)

People should know what they are getting when they spend $200 or more of their hard earned money. People should know where an orginization stands on industry issues.

Instead of the orginization trying to establish who they are they are instead just trying to make rules to keep members from saying bad things about them in public.

The day Stars puts up a code of conduct to prevent people from telling the truth about Stars is a day I personally file a lawsuit against Joel Munn, the board of directors and the Stars orginization.

As an industry orginization they should be focused on the industry not making rules to ban members who are asking legitimate questions about the orginization.

If Joel Munn is a leader then its time to put up or shut up. Look at all the time he is wasting on these stupid matters instead or stearing the boat to be a true industry orginization.

Joel Munn, I challange you to turn the ship around for the good of all Stars members or resign from Stars.

Can you say what the status of your suit is Scott? Be nice to know. Last I heard, some if not most of the board has resigned. Funny how the very site I was kicked out of after questioning Joel has now less than 3 posts per week. I guess that shows not many people really take them seriously.

Good luck on the suit, keep their feet to the fire.

There is no suit... yet.

You mentioned something interesting and that is a large amound of the Board of Directors were NOT elected they were apointed after everyone else resigned.

I am wondering who appointed them... :)

Alright Scott. Its pretty apparent to most of us that the IDEA of STARS was a good one. No sense in beating the dead horse in how the implementation went. Flat out...it sucked.

Soooo....with that that said. Generalize. How would you like to see something like this fly? Can it even fly? IMO...it's a little too little too late. Five years ago...heck, even three years ago it may have worked. Regardless...let's hear how you would approach this thing. :)

I don't honestly know if something like this could fly now. There are only 20 something members, and that's not an organization that's just about enough to get a group discount at the all you can eat buffet.

My reason for joinung Stars was because I thought I could help using SatelliteGuys. I wanted to put a Star dealer locator here where CONSUMERS will see it. We have now close to 400,000 unique IP addresses hitting here a month most of them consumers. What better of a place to have a dealer finder.

I made the offer but was shuned by Stars since I asked question about what is stars and what do members get for their 200 dollars. Instead of getting answers I was labeled as a trouble maker.

Its funny they can't tell you what's stars is but they can tell you what its costs to join.

Its too bad because the retailers and tech need something as the companies they work to promote are the same companies putting these hard working folks out of business.

So basicly Joel Munn has taken the membership dues and did what with it? Pay off some personal debt? Buy a hooker at the bunny ranch? Get himself a cheap rolex?

I joined also when it first started... i'm just writing it off as a bad investment... that money probably would have better spent at the casino, but o well, live and learn

I think part of the problem with trying to start a union for satellite installers is that most of the people in our industry are pretty pig headed and stubborn, me included, and it would be hard to reach any concensus amongst ourselves as the right things to do. The industry itself is so splintered of in different directions now as people struggle to survive that it would be hard for a union to be able to focus on a core cause.
As far as Joel, this is not the first time he has suggested starting something to supposedly help others, but first asking for money up front. He has at least 8 sites sprinkled on the web where he proclaims to be the saviour of the industry, but yet he has a tough time supporting himself. One of his big things is the satellite reviewer you could get unbiased reviews of other companies and installers. But that site is a big joke. It is set up so that the people being reviewed can vote for themselves repeatedly and if you try to posy anything negative about any of his so called friends, he will block you from the site and remove the negatives.

I did make one big mistake at the beginning of this post though, the screen name Joel uses is Cablesux, not Vegas satellite. However, Vegas seems to be one of his biggest fans in the othjr sites and likes to join in on bashing anyone that questions Jeol.
