from newbie here, why do i have toreset my reciever two to three times aday? video freezes up but audio is fine. this is my second relacment reciever. seems like dish tech support is no help. is anyone else having problums with this reciever? are can you help me with this problum.

Someplace else I was crucified for commenting on the 222, even got banned for a day, this model receiver has horrific problems, I know I had one and went through all the things you are experiencing and more, I finally was able to get it replaced with a 722 and never looked back my experience with the 222 was total frustration

We just got our system installed this week, with a 222. I had asked a couple questions earlier under the "technical discussions" thread prior to installation, and I found others who agree that the 222 is pure junk, "the biggest POS dish has ever released" to quote. It was suggested I change my equipment order prior to install, which I tried, but we had signed up in Jan under the better HD promotion, and DISH wouldn't change equip on the order without sticking us under the Feb promotion. That was a step backwards, so decided to take my chances with the 222. It has worked ok for all of 3 days, but you guys are not helping me to remain optimistic. At least I won't be surprised if/when ours go bad.

Just curious, how many do you have to go through before they allow you switch to a different model?

I've had my 222 since last summer and am very satisfied with it.

I was 99% trouble-free until the last software update about a month ago. I experienced several BSOD's...Through the process of experimentation, I concluded that my unit was not cool enough. I repositioned the 222 alone, away from other equipment & nothing above it to trap heat and...bingo, I am back to 99.9% perfect operation.

Based on my experience with the unit, I FULLY RECOMMEND the VIP222.

You wouldn't happen to have an OTA hooked up to it? I've got a 222 that's only locked up twice since upgrading to hd 3 months ago and this only happend when I hooked the OTA Antenna up. But since I removed the ota all is well.

thanks for the responce. im on my second one. now they want to send a tech out to check there installatio! and charge me 49.$ to upgrade cost about 500.$ due to there dish it up promo. only one upgrade per year. they just wont admitt this is a bad model reciever. just has to be a problum on my end.

no ota hooked up, worked ok until there lastes software update. nothing but problums since.

My 222 is also hanging up (no turn on) and sometimes just freezes while watchiing TV. This is the second unit installed and the average trouble free time is 3 days. Yes a simple front panel reset works and of course pulling the AC power cord. It does seem to be software related, since it hangs up after performing the evening prior. I'm wondering if I should just unplug the telephone line. I do have an OTA antenna hooked up, but fail to see how that would interfere on a good design.

DishNetwork only has the simple minded idea to replace this unit with a third 222 unit. They can't seem to make up their mind if I own this unit or if they own it. I say come get it and give a model that works reliabily if it is their unit. Don't buy this model no matter how tempting it is to feed 2 TV's.

Since I unhooked my overrated OTA antenna there hasn't been anymore freeze up problems with the 222. In fact, when I was climbing on top of the roof 10 times a day trying to find the perfect angle I would sometimes unhook the OTA antenna from the receiver and then bam it'd lock up/freeze whatever you call it but I came to the conclusion that that was the problem.

Also, I had trouble any time it rained with the diplexer getting wet so I got the one from my attic (the red Holland diplexer) and replaced it with the red holland one outside and rigged it up where it's going thru a ziplock bag preventing it from getting wet or moisture ands since doing that there hasn't been any more problems with the screen freezing. But then again I really don't know much about this stuff just tinkered around with it to see what works because my tech sure doesn't.

sounds like you have the problum i do. dish network dont seem to interested in this unit. soon as i can dish it up,im going to.calling tech service is just a waist of time

Try running a temporary test cable from the dish to the receiver and check its stability over a couple of days. I just did a service call where the original install incorporated the use of some store bought wire and a gold barrel wall plate. That was the cause of their problem with intermittent issues including having to run chronic check switch tests.

test cable

i also have a 522 dvr conected to this dish, running two tvs off of it, havent had a problum with it since it was installed about two years ago. the only problum is the vip222,which still freezes up two or three times aday.

Mine was freezing daily. The latest 3.05 software is better. It only freezes up every other day now!:D

Every couple of days my 222 "acts up".

In the morning, I get up watch the local news and within 2-5 minutes the channel changes on it's own to Ch 101. This doesn't bother me that much, I just change the channel back. (But this happens about every other day.)

When I finish watching TV, I turn off the TV & 222 and continue my morning, with my family waking up about 45 minutes later and ready to watch TV. This is when problem 2 starts: Turn on the TV, press 'Select' to power on the 222 and nothing, it's locked up & I have to reboot.

I have an OTA antenna hooked up to the 222 and I am thinking about removing it for a few days to see if this might be the cause of the problems.

So far my opinion of the 222 is about the same as me believing that Dish is the "Leader in HD".

I have this same problem on my VIP222 TV2 changing to Ch. 101. Most mornings the channel changes to Ch. 101 around 5:12-5:13am CT. Why then I do not know.

TV1 is uneffected.

I have a problem that my TV2 cannot autotune for a reminder with the VIP222. When I set up from the TV2 remote it puts the autotune on TV1. I spoke wth Tech Support and apparently it is an "issue" that the engineering department is working on. This plays havoc with my tv tuner on my computer when I cannot autotune the channel to what I want.

And as everyone else says, my receiver will freeze on occasion. Had is replaced and it does not do it as much nut still does once in a while
