HERE TO HELP YOU!
Just passing this on from Directv so everyone is on the same page...

Just a quick note, the criver channels in HD for NASCAR HotPass are mostly in MPEG4.
Channels 795, 796, 797, 798. However, channel 799 is in MPEG2. This is the national network feed with the 12 driver audio channels (now 12, though originally we thought 13). So it is possible that a customer with older HD equipment, HD Access and NASCAR HotPass could see one of the 5 HD channels. We have called each HotPass customer multiple times thus far along with emails, etc to indicate that they are eligible for a free HD swap, but there are still some folks out there that haven't responded yet. Just a fyi if you see some customers asking why they can see one of the HD channels (799) and not the other HD channels (795-798 in MPEG4). The reason is their hardware. They need to get swapped out.

Did they ever offer a free preview of this service? If so too bad I missed it.. I'm not a NASCAR fan but it would be cool to see this in action.

Should be, again from Directv...
Daytona 500 Free Preview for NASCAR HotPass
The Daytona 500 is scheduled to be a Free Preview for all customers of DIRECTV. This is the 50th running of the Daytona 500, starts February 17th.
Free preview will be in HD and SD (assumes HD customers have HD Access service on their account)

Tomorrow - which is the first race of the year.

Hehe.. cool. As I said I'm not a big NASCAR guy, but my friend is, so I texted her saying, "I'm gonna be in Jr's Car... I'm gonna be in Jr's Car.. as well as Stewarts, Gordons, and Harvicks." Should be interesting to see the response I get. She's a die hard Jr fan, so I have plenty of material to bust her chops with. :p

Who ever drives the DirecTV car called us yesterday and wanted to remind us about the free hot pass, of coarse it was a recording but I didn't know it was free so that was cool.

Directv must have a part time sponsor as they are not in the Daytona 500, It could have been a Nationwide race from yesterday as well.

I have seen the D* car, but think it's definately a partial sponsorship.

The primary sponsor of the 07 car is Jack Daniel's. I am sure that being a sponsor also, Directv is guaranteed to be the primary paint on the car for a percentages of the races.

Clint Boyer (#07) has had a DirecTV car at times. I'm not sure if that sponsorship continues this year.

I'm a fan of watching the races myself, and it's pretty much that simple. I'm not a gear head, don't have a favorite driver, can't name the race tracks, crew chiefs or everyone's car owner. But over the last 3-4 years, I've gone from paying zero attention to Nascar to watching most races.

Same here except it has only been the last two years for me.
