Am I the only one ticked off that there was no mention of SPEED HD in the upcoming HD list? This blows for all of us NASCAR and Formula 1 fans

From the sound of it Charlie is doing his hackling over the price and who knows when it will ever come to Dish! It couldn't be that high, Direct has it along with some other Cable companies! Seems Charlie likes to try to get things sometime for a sale price so to speak, but don't think it will be put on sale anytime soon, it is one of the highly sought after HD channels! So Charlie will just wait it out until his price is met! Hope I'm wrong, I'm almost wanting to jump ship for this reason, but I will be patient for now! C'mon Charlie make this happen! I know he thinks he's doing us a favor to try to keep prices down, but their going to go up regardless, they always do! Just bite the bullet on this one Charlie!

Well I rather Dish fight to get a better price on the channel than to just give in and pay the same price for channels that other providers pay. So point being just because Direct or a Cable provider pays a certain price for a channel does not mean Dish should just do the same. I rather them fight to get the best price so that way it keeps rates down instead of paying the same price as everyone else which sometimes turns into rate increases. Overall I think Dish will add the channel just like everyone else so not to worried. Right now most of the NASCAR races will be on FOX and ESPN for most part anyway..

Speed is important to Many

We all want different channels, but Speed is an important channel to NASCAR fans, one of the major sports in the US. With Dish often being on the hood of Roush-Fennway cars it would seem they would want to include the channel in their line up. Those who watch on D* would be unlikely to make the switch to E* if they should see the Dish ad on the hood if they find it does not carry the HD version of the channel.

I bet the fact that Fox/News Corp. owns the channel is keeping the price to E* above their acceptable level.

That would be great if they would then pass on those savings to us ... fact is though - that no matter how much he holds out for a better price .. the overall savings for the entire month that is passed on to the end user is probably 2-3 dollars per month.

If he is going to fight and fight and not add channels for the sake of $2-3 - in order to move himself up the Forbes rich list - that is one thing - but if he is genuinely trying to pass on the savings to the end user .. pass on the full 20%-30% savings that you get by playing hardball. (just a guess)

I haven't had time to search but I seem to remember Fox suing Dish Network for not picking up the new Fox Business Network.

If my memory is correct then this could be why no Speed HD (as well as no FX HD) we wouldn't see these channels until the other fight is done unfortunately.

I tought the lawsuit from Fox had to do with what package Fox News was placed in.

It's amazing that all these other companies can enter into a contract for programming but with Charlie every channel is a haggle. Yes, Lifetime, USA, etc etc etc. But at least he does it for us.

I'm hoping that some of the Formula1 races are broadcast in HD. That would be awesome (if E* decides to add SPEED HD). We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

So I guess I missed the part about SPEED HD in the chat. What was mentioned?

I think that the Formula one races are not in HD, but are ED Widescreen format. Like what fox used for three races last year.

I also think I read somewhere that SPEED is owed by the same parent company as Direct TV, so you really think E* will get offered the same price as DTV to carry it? DTV has their 'NASCAR' package & will probably hold SPEED HD tight to their chest just to try & get ppl to switch to them... To tell you the truth, being an old time NASCAR fan & remembering when the entire season, except for Daytona which was on CBS, was carried by ESPN. They gave NASCAR their big TV break & got screwed when NASCAR gave FOX exclusive rights. I started to lose interest when they put restrictor plates on, lost more when they went to FOX, and lost even more now with the COT's that look more like 'drifters' than NASCAR... Maybe it's time for me to start watching some thing like ARCA where the politics don't run rampid!!!!!!!

Speed is owned by Fox, which is owned by News Corp, which used to own D* up until a week or 2 ago when Liberty took ownership.
