I live in Bradford, PA and receive the Buffalo, NY locals. Directv just recently added WNGS which carries the OTA broadcast of the Indians, Mets and Yankess. Now I live in the Pirates and Indians territory, but not the Yankees or Met's. Soooooo since WNGS is a local channel for me will I get those Mets and Yankees games? Not looking to start a proper/improper blackout thread, just curious if anyone out there has a similar situation.

Thanks

I think you are going to have to wait until the season starts to find out.

Awwww Come on be brave! Sure would be sweet though, Pirates on FOX Pitt, Indians on STO, WGN, TBS and then maybe Mets and Yankees games on a local station......

I would think whatever team claims your area is what you will get on the independent stations.

Seeing it's an OTA channel, why not contact the station themselves, normally there are email addresses on the websites, direct the question to the Chief Engineer ...
Seeing it's local, you may also be able to call them and talk to him/ her in person.
Seeing it's OTA, can you also pick it up with an OTA antenna from where you are, if so, it may look even better and you probably would not be subject to any blackout that D* imposes, actually, I'll say it here first, because it will be mentioned many more time during the year.
D* does NOT determine blackouts, that is up to the team and in this case MLB .

That's a tough one, I have a prety good handle on the blackouts, but have no idea what to say to that question. If the blackouts for OTA or local stations are handled through the same systemic process RSNs are, I would say you would get the Pirates & Indians and the others would be blacked out - requiring the Extra Innings package to view.

If it doesn't use the same systemic process, you should be good.

Either way, you'll know in 3-4 weeks!

WNGS is a lower power station located half-way between Bradford PA and Buffalo NY with their main directional pattern aimed at Buffalo, so antenna not an option.

I realize that D* doesn't control the blackouts, I'm very familiar with blackouts. This is just the first season that I'll be able to receive this independent station and was just trying to get a feel if there was anybody else in a similar market.

I'm surprised that D* would be picking up a low powered station like that.
Good for you !

They are part of the RTN network. The local affliate is owned by Granite Broadcasting who also own the local ABC affiliate. Don't remember the URL but it appears that the RTN network is planning a pretty impressive expansion this year, mostly in HD.

I don't know where that info came from. But there are just two tv outlets for Mets games. WPIX, Ch11 in New York(25 games) and SNY, 125 games televised.
To my knowledge, MLB and the member clubs prohibit out of market or independent stations from broadcasting games on TV..now, if this station is a Mets affiliate( this info is not on the mets website) I would assume the games will be available..The only way that station can pick up the games is if it they get permission from The Mets to rebroadcast WPIX feeds....If you can, please post the information you have stating WNGS has broadcast rights ot Mets games.
OK I did a little reasearch on my own..WNGS has permission to broadcast all Mets games originating on WPIX CH11 in NYC...There are about 25 games on the WPIX Schedule...Because this is now a local station on your satellite lineup, the games will not be blacked out...

OK, I have a related question: I live in the Buffalo market and get the Yanks and Mets games. With the package I subscribe to (Total Choice + (or the current Choice Xtra)) I also get Sportstime Ohio (STO), which is the home of the Indians. Will Indians games be blacked out for me?

I have been able to watch some of their 2007 "classic" games.

That's the 2007 schedule.
if you can see their classic games id say your in the clear for the upcoming mlb games on sto
I guess I'll find out soon enough.

go to STO's website and dig up their coverage area. Do you receive STO as one of your RSN's?...If so, you'll get the Indians games.

guess they haven't updated their website yet..That's pretty ridiculous. Now I would be suspect if the programming agreement still exists...The OP shoud just call the station.

• The Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming. Neal Ardman of WNGS reports that the independent station has renewed its deal to carry 21 New York Yankee games, 20-25 New York Mets games and 20 Cleveland Indian games this baseball season. This season, the station is on satellite, too.

I'm going to bet you'll get the Indians games this year if you're receiving STO now. I checked my Zip on D* website which now has the Indians listed for my Zip and the STO site says the Indians games will be broadcast in the entire Indians territory on Directv and Dish.

Just got a reply to the question I emailed STO about this:

"DirecTV decided against carrying STO in your area the last two years. BUT, they finally added STO throughout the Cleveland Indians TV territory (which includes the Buffalo area) as of January 1, 2008. STO (including all of our Indians games) is now available on their Choice Xtra programming package (or above programming package)."

So it looks like we shouldn't be blacked out of Indians games here in Buffalo, which will give us access to 3 MLB teams (Yankees and Mets too). I sent them a follow up question to see if they know when D* will add STO-HD.
