Called Dish tonight to ask about upgrading to a 722 , have 5 months left on my commit, was told can not do a dish'n'it'up upgrade at this time, but I could buy one for $500. I can terminate for about $50 or so and go to D* and get their HD DVR for $99 up front and their total choice plus HD for $54.97 for 12 months. Can anyone give me a reason to stay with Dish? $500 vs $150, guess that the folks at Dish just don't care about retention.

I did it for $200 last week, It wasn't even ordered, the tech was here to fix a connection problem and I just happened to mention it. Luckily he had a 722 in his truck. He called Activation, I gave them a CC # and it was done right there. Sounds like a CSR doesn't know what the hell they're talking about. But then what else is new. :D

Most of the idiots on the phone at Dish, have no clue what they are doing. Dish does not educate them to what the current items are or what the current/upcoming deals are/will be. Its pretty sad, when the customer knows more then the person on the other end of the phone. My last 6 telephone calls, ended up where I was educating them! I would just keep calling and see who you get because, it may not be the same.

I dont know if you already tried it... But the first person you talk to ask them to speak to a Account Specialist. They gave me that same song and dance and I was able to upgrade to a 622 the first time for free, and then another 722 about 2 months later. The people in India or wherever they are dont know anything. They dont make any decisions as far as upgrades. Just mention that you are wanting to go to Direct and see what they tell you. Hope this works
:hungry:

Already switched to D*, called up to see what E* would do for a best offer before I cancelled, said they will do the 722 for free now and my bottom line will be $29.99 a month and with my Club Dish discounts for the next 8 months it will end up costing me $19.99 a month for the HD only pkg.
So, I will stay with E* for now, 722 will be in the bedroom hooked up to my 24" Samsung monitor via HDMI and D* is in the living room hooked up to my 50" Samsung plasma, along with the Fyre TV beta unit. Hope I don't have an HD overdose(LOL)

I called about a month ago and asked to upgrade to 722 from my 622 and the original rep told me that there wasn't any upgrade available to me. So I asked to speak to a mgr, and well I have a 722 now and it cost me 65.00

Why the need to upgrade a 622 to 722? The only difference is the ability to play HDVOD.

722 also has more HD space??? I remember thinking that when I replaced a 510 with a 722 in September that I really didn't need the external support with the 722 since it had ~50 hrs hd verse 32 for my older 622.

It does have a little more space but not enough for me. I have 3 external drives totalling 1TB in space and 3/4ths of that is used right now.

$0, told them I was going to D* and she offered 722 for free, got HD only pkg. NO locals or anything else, I get OTA from 3 different markets where I live and could care less about the locals on E* or D*. I get 90+ signal strength on all of my OTA. I live in the country and have a deep fringe antenna with a CM rotor and pre-amp, so I am all set for locals. No HOA crap to worry about, like people in the subs have to contend with.

I'm getting the wrong CSRs, my contract is up and I've been trying to get an upgrade. I may use the plasma concepts current promo to get it- if they call my bluff then fine, I'll go to direct TV. I'm just afraid I'm going to say I'm canceling and they won't stop me.

All I get is the $150 dishin' it up offer...

I was thinking about doing the same thing but I'm also not sure I want my bluff to be called. $150 was the same offer they gave me with a 24mo contract. I'm not sure I want to sign that long of a deal with E* when D* appears to be leading the charge at the moment. Let us know how it works out for you...

I told the first person that I wanted to close my account, she immediately moved me up the chain.

I told them about the plasma concepts rebate (ends today) and that I could get in for basically nothing and they offered me the 622/new dish for $50. Good enough for me. D* clearly has the edge with HD - but except for USA, this will get me what I need, which is basically means locals in HD plus ESPNHD. I can't get OTA without a big antenna array ($90) - too far from the metro area.

I guess I'll trust that more HD will come along. If the HD only package ever gets Disney for the kids and USA we'll move to that.

2 years is a long time, but the cancellation is $10/mo. D* would have been similar monthly price for one year and then ~$20/mo more after that for channels I mostly won't use. Also, without any DVR function for the 2nd room.

What made my mind up for me is that I can get the 2 tuner DVR without any extra fees, and that the 2nd TV can access the DVR, so it's basically a two room DVR setup- which would have cost an additional $100 installation and ~$5/mo from D*. We like to have the kids watch TV upstairs (36" SD tube) and we watch the HD downstairs. With the EHD option, storage isn't an issue, I have extra drives lying around. Plus $20 less/mo for the 2nd year is money in my pocket. No promotional pricing. And we've been very happy with Dish in general. My dad has D*, and granted I don't spend much time with it, I hate his DVR setup. PIP on the 622 is nice as well. UHF remote is a plus as well as I have the plasma in a different room from the components. The Dish hardware just won me over.

Install is tomorrow, can't wait.
