Sci-Fi HD...when can we watch?

2 shows

Starting 4-19 not only is BSG on that's also when Dr Who"s new season starts. That actually bothers me even more than BSG. At least BSG comes on UniHD in HD after it runs on SciFi. the Dr doesn't come on anywhere else this side of the pond in HD

are you sure Dr. Who will even come in HD as I do not believe it is it not shot in HD or film nor is it shown in HD anywhere

You are correct. The show's producer states too much set rebuilding and $$$ for special effects would be required. He also says Torchwood in HD was a nightmare to accomplish. Probably not until 2010.

Dish keeps putting BSG features in the TV & Entertainment folder on my 622. That's like putting salt on the wound for those who want SCI-FI HD. I still can not believe it has taken this long to get the most popular cable network in HD which is USA-HD. I believe every cable company in my area has about 15 HD national channels (no VOOM) in HD. How long was NESN-HD uplinked before it was made available to viewers?

Whatchel,

Doctor Who is NOT available in HD. BBC does not produce Doctor Who in HD. Torchwood (Doctor Who Spinoff) is the only Doctor Who related series that is available in HD.

sure of that

I wouldn't watch Doctor Who on SciFi anyway. They cut out 5-10 minutes of the program to hawk 2nd mortgages and anti-sterility pills. I'll use my special BBC internets antenna.

I've watched a couple of eps and have not missed parts of the show on SciFi. I could be wrong on that.

That being said, since it is produced on film, an HD upconvert would look very good!

Exactly, my thoughts. Since it is shot on film figure that it would be converted to HD.

It's at PAL resolution which is actually somewhere between what we call "SD" and "HD" so it would definitely look better upconverted, than compressed.

There were several scenes, whole 3-4 minutes, edited out of the season 3 finale. I believe that was a music rights issue, which is even lamer. A couple of the other edits dealt with minor plot points that when removed made things muddy.

But mostly what is edited are transitions, and scenery shots. But still the show was filmed with out the requirements of commercial scene breaks, which really breaks up the story.

But on topic it would a whole lot better transmitted in HD. Just look at the difference in the BBC America and the HDNet broadcast of Torchwood, and the SciFi and Universal HD broadcasts of BSG. Night and freakin day.

That said. I might turn on the TV while Who is on if we get SciFi HD. Especially since they are going to show "The Sarah Jane Adventures" I didn't acquire those during the BBC airing.
