HD Only Package (denied)

So...

If I'm under contract with Dish, am I still allowed to switch to this package?

I did.

The chat tech tried to tell me I couldn't change to HD Only because I was on contract and I told him this was wrong, that the HD Only package was QUALIFYING PROGRAMMING. He went away for a minute, came back and said he was changing it now and did I want anything else.

why would he have that enabling fee when he has the HD package? Its for people who have a 622/722 and no HD on it

I have had the $7 "leased receiver fee" ever since I got the 622. I have always had HD with Dish and switched from the Americas "Everything" Package to the HD Only Package earlier this year.

I thought it was a standard monthly lease fee.

So what channels would I actually be losing if I switched over? I checked the list on their site, and nothing jumped out at me.

If you switched to HD Only?

Your regional sports network channel and all the SD channels that don't have an HD equivalent.

I just switched to DishHD with locals. No problems!
Glad to see that some SD-only channels are still present in the HD-only package (e.g. ARTS channel!)
The only SD channel that I truly worried about: NASA-TV is included too! Great! :up

Most of the PI channels were just added this week. NASA has been there from the start (as I recall).

I also see BRAVO, TCM, DOC, GAME, VS., CCTV9, etc.

Can someone please tell me what if any of the news channels you get in the HD Only package? Ie: fox, msnbc, cnbc, oh, and maybe lifetime, and DIY.
I would love to switch to HD package and save some money.
TIA

Fox: No

MSNBC: No

CNBC: No

Lifetime: No

DIY: No

Hey but you Get CNN HD!

I held off on this package because I needed to have at least 1 major news network and 1 financial channel.

CNN-HD filled the news channel.
And I subbed to Bloomberg, A La Carte, for the financial channel.

It is only a matter of time until MSNBC-HD goes online and CNBC-HD gets added anyway.

I'm glad I switched to the HD only package.:up

I just switched over the phone. Took no more than 35 seconds with a very pleasant chap on the far end.

Now here's to hoping some of those uplinked HD channels get turned on soon :)

As others have stated, 40.97+tax (with locals).. reassuring to hear him quote that # to know that they did the change correctly.

I gotta say, the HD only pack kicks a lot of a$$. I've been saving some serious money, I get to keep on using my 622 and I get all the programming I want.

But yea, outsourced CS blows no matter what it's for.

AT&T brought some CS home from overseas. Now these are union jobs and they can't fill them due to a lack of talent.

Not really standard. No, it's not the "HD enabling fee" that shows up if you have HD equipment and no HD programming. This "leased receiver fee" of $7 (increased recently from $6) generally shows up on customer accounts where receivers have been upgraded (ie Dishn' It Up). Even if that upgrade replaces the only receiver on the account.

As far as I'm aware, it can be waived for a period of time, but not removed. At least not with the reps I've spoken with. If anyone has been able to get it removed, please share :) It really is a total junk fee - you could sign up for new service today and get the same equipment and same programming and not be charged that $7 fee. If it was enforced more fairly (only for the contract duration immediately after upgrading) or consistently (for all customers with that package/equipment, like the DVR fee) it'd be tolerable. It's neither of those, in my opinion.

A question. Is it possible to get the HD Only package AND the Family package?
Thank you for your responses!

You can combine the HD Package with anything that Dish offeres EXCEPT:

Any of the AT packages
Family Pack
Dish Latino Packs
Great Wall? (Not sure about that one)
Sports Pack
--any other package that requires one of the above frist.

Everything else can be added even if the first CSR you talk to says no.

See ya
Tony
