DISH Network Charges Forward With Another Round of National HD Channel Launches

Excellent News !! - more HD for Dish = more competition = more HD for everyone ...

Amazing to me that they could have done this all along with the satellites/space that were already up there but chose not to ... too little too late for me I'm afraid .. I've already jumped and given the lack of Speed HD am happy that I did, but nice to see that there is life in the old dog yet

Well done Dish !!

They did not have the space until they got the new uplink centers working and were able to do spot beams on 61.5. They moved off NYC, Boston and Providence to spot, plus they got the Sky Angel TPs, that is 5 TPs in the last 40 days recovered.

This was done just to keep the retailers from rioting at Team Summit. You know business had to be hurting with the delay of HD. Now Dish has very close to the same number of channels that DIRECTV offers.

I don't think any one has CSNBA+ in HD. But you never know. I'm so happy. It was so hard to watch the Sharks is SD during the playoffs. It was almost unwatchable.
The + station is an SD only station. The BA needs 2 RSN's and they need them to both be full time HD. Most major cities have 2 or more and show all of their game broadcast in HD.

ETA: I do agree about CSNBA SD PQ. It is horrible. The HD looks a thousand times better.

Well said. Plus, they have earnings report on Tuesday morning. They want to tell their shareholders their plan remains on track with 100/100 by the end of 2009. I wished that Dish could have launched couple of channels a week over the past few weeks (I'll take the 19 channels in a day, anyday!). They could have had several positive press releases in the market. They are doing well with their local rollout. I just hope that not too many people left for D*. This is going to a very busy week :)

"Comcast Sports Network Bay Area HD (Ch 419)*"

Great...now that hockey season is over they finally get it. About time.

Considering how long it's been uplinked with people waiting and waiting and not even a whisper about it being made available until the press release, we're fortunate to have it up and ready for the start of next season. :D

By my count, they'll only actually be adding 17 HD channels (not that I'm complaining). We already had USA, Sci-Fi, and CNN, and RSN's shouldn't (IMHO) count.

Still, great that they're adding so much!!! I'm just surprised that it took so long...

:up Excellent news :up

I'm still not sure why Dish didn't just say more HD LiL in April and more national HD in May instead of going through all of this ''lots more hd by the end of April'' business.

Oh well, T.I.E.

Just an editorial note... Shouldn't this have actually been posted in the "Dish HD Discussions" board? :)

:clap clap clap:

Thank you Dish, finally some new HD channels. There are some good ones in there.

And now for a surpring statement. Dish actually now has MORE HD channels than DirecTV. DirecTV has 18 national channels Dish doesn't and Dish has 20 national channels DirecTV doesn't. 15 are VOOM and the other 5 are Travel, 5-Star Max, ABC Family, Hallmark Movie Channel, and WFN.

And that means that Dish has way more HD programming than DirecTV, since most of the those 18 national channels have little or no HD programming (eg MTV and VH-1).

I talked about this in a different thread.

If Dish adds two channels twice a month, then each time, the reaction is:

" Just two channels ... DirecTV already has those channels ... DirecTV still has way more HD channels. "

So they don't get any competitive advantage or buzz by adding them one by one.

It says they all of them (except the two RSN's) will launch on Monday. I am told by Dish that they will be on by 5pm ET tomorrow.

The press release does not literally say they will all launch Monday. It says they will launch beginning Monday with the 2 RSNs * for a Wednesday launch but never specifies when the launching will end. It is easy to infer they mean Monday but the word "beginning" is a qualifier.

There is just enough ambiguity to be able to back peddle if something goes wrong. If they wanted to be definitive the would have left out the word "beginning".

Call me a skeptic but Dish has failed to come through too many times the past 9 months.

When 5pm rolls around and I have 17 more nationals I will finally believe it. I expect a low productivity day at work with many hits on the refresh button....

At 7pm, expect posts to begin about when we can expect to see channel x or channel y. :D
