Seems like someone is getting the Travel Channel sooner than later. Any idea or word if D* will be getting it anytime soon?

DirecTV doesn't usually make advanced info statements. You could check the other thread already on this topic and see what rumors they are throwing around about it.

seems like the HD race is back on! Looks like dish is creeping up.

Spoke too fast; there is no race. Anyway...... DirecTV already has about 100 HD chnls, capacity remaining on DirecTV-10, soon to be open for biz capacity on DirecTV-11 and yet to be launched (2009) capacity on DirecTV-12; so whats the beef again? And how is Dish going to match all that capacity? What race exactly? Why are we racing? And why are we all in a pissing contest over it? I can't believe you guys a pissing and moaning over a handful of niche chnls one way or the other! Just go watch TV.

From what I know Dish actually has more satellites up there than directv has.. so in esscense they could create a new dish to pick up 105, 110, 118, 119, 121 and increase their capacity well above directv if they weren't going down the mpeg4 route and the eastern arc thing..

but dish coming up with new hd forces directv's hand to add more.. and visa versa directv's additions force dishs hand in adding more channels..

and in the end.. we're the ones who win :)

It is not how many satellites you have, but how many licenses for transponders. They can put 5 satellites at 110 position but can only use 10 transponders. D* has alot more licenses than E*, especially in KA band.

Not to mention that Dish has a lot of mirrored east and west feeds, so many transponders are being used to duplicate what other transponders are already doing.

More competion the better! All I want is more HD content, period! I have both dish and Direc.
Love them both!

I might be in the monority here but I liked the voom channels. Dish just pulled off 10 voom channels without notice

Thats just horendous!

AND, Comcast HAS just launched WGN-HD (yes, the superstation version) on most of their systems downstate, so it sure ain't an exclusive, either...

He may have meant the World Fishing Network (WFN) in HD. Which is an exclusive for Dish. I am sure we are all up in arms that that one hasn't been added on D thus far.
