Yeah, that's what we need. Channels that show reruns all the time. Yeah!

And you ignore four specific examples of original content listed before that.

Is USA worthless because they show a lot of SVU reruns between every new episode of Monk?

Is TNT worthless because they show a lot of Law & Order reruns between each NBA game?

Define "original content." On the flipside, I can say that all the Voom channels have "original content" because nobody else had them.

I won't be watching it but it's better than Voom....

Wow.

That says so much right there.

It comes down to this... I look through the guide and never see anything of interest on Voom, hence I never turn it there. When I see something on Speed in HD I'm much more likely to flip by, even for only a couple minutes, to see what it is. I also know a ton of people who will watch Speed but currently never watch anything on Voom.

Fine. You like redneck content, I like trashy, cheesy horror content. Agree to disagree, that's why they're called opinions. :D

Honestly, I don't really care for the racing, although it will catch my eye for maybe a few minutes.

The HBO's, Cinemax's, Starz's, etc., to go with other mainstream channels (FX, Spike, etc.) are of much more interest than any of those, however.

Thats basically what I do. It isnt that I dont enjoy anything else, I simply dont have the time to watch all of the "300 hours" of programming that they took off. With the time I do have, I would rather watch something that interests me a little more, and generally speaking thats the main four networks, and sports. Everyone is different.
I know what you mean. I'm a stay-at-home dad with 2 girls and I let them watch the typical kid stuff while we're not outside (I refuse to let my kids eat and watch tv all day) but it was nice to have the option to watch those HD channels if I did have time, ya know? Hey, I'm not knocking anyone on here for why they bought their TV. I don't care if they bought it to shoot paintballs at it, I'm just saying that was a big investment on my family's budget and somebody better be watching some HD on it. Side note: I never knew Young and the Restless would look so good in HD.. Sharon= :hungry:

You can probably say the same for more than 200+ channels listed in the guide that people pay for and probably hardly ever watch. It's called variety and choice. We all pay for channels we want and don't want. Not to change the subject but, if people had the option to choose what they wanted to watch instead of having to pay for and subsidize a huge amount of channels they probably never watch, this debate wouldn't exist. But that will probably never happen because the powerful program networks and lobbyists will not allow the "option" to let the consumer pick and pay for those channels they want to view. It's all or nothing.

"Trashy, cheesy horror content" that we just can't get ANYWHERE else!!!

I can't wait now for Chiller HD now, but seriously I don't expect them to have much of the stuff that Monsters had. I don't expect them to go that extra mile and put together exclusive directors cuts or show ultra hard to find movies. A DVD of Rawhead Rex (if you could find one) would run you $80.00 alone. And that's only the tip of the iceburg.

  1. MTV - Zero HD content
  2. CMT - Zero HD content
  3. VH-1 - Zero HD content
  4. COMEDY CENTRAL - 2 hours a day at most HD content
  5. SPEED - I don't know about this one. I do like NASCAR in HD. But I bet the rest is SD
  6. FUEL - Never heard of this channel before DirecTV got it and still have no idea what it is.
  7. FX - HD sports and some reruns.
  8. FOX NEWS - I thought no one liked Fox News? HD Ticker...
  9. FOX BUSINESS - HD Ticker...
  10. SPIKE - Few of HD a day at best, all reruns. Unwatchable Stretch-o-vision the rest of the time?
  11. NICKELODEON - Don't know about this one.
  12. HBO-W - Good, but it's a premium service, not part of the HD package
  13. SHO-TOO - Good, but it's a premium service, not part of the HD package
  14. THE MOVIE CHANNEL - Good, but it's a premium service, not part of the HD package, though this channel generally BLOWS.
  15. STARZ-W - Good, but it's a premium service, not part of the HD package

Yup, the average joe with no concept of real HD programming will love this crap!

See ya
Tony

Aren't some of the FX series in HD?

My word of advice for those pissed that VOOM is gone is to wait. Let the court case go forward, next hearing date is 10/23. If VOOM wins by the end of the year Dish will have Ciel-2 and Echostar 11 up, so they can add the channels back. I think Charlie knows this, so he decided to add mainstream programming & yank off the VOOM channels to help add new subs that have been going to Directv. He does own 20% of VOOM, so he is not going to just screw himself here from a business standpoint. This is an interim solution until he has the new sats up. That is my take on this. I would expect a lot more of the mainstream HD channels D* has to be added in the next month or so, as Monday was just the beginning. I could be wrong, time will tell.

As far as the racing goes ('Merican style:cool:) I get it OTA (FOX/NBC)- 43 cars in NICE, CLEAN, CRISP, 200mph uncompressed HD beauty. Sorry, folks. I don't know why I'm posting this.....I just remember seeing the word "racing" and my heart started beating faster, I guess.

While I do agree with your points I still don't understand why the average Joe would choose E* over D*??? D* is more popular, has more hd channels, has sports out the cazoo, has better pq and most if not all hd locals. They also have the capacity to increase # of channels. Both are priced about the same. Treating your current hd subs like crap doesn't help matters either. Seems like an easy choice.

It depends on where you live. Here, dish carries our local channels (not HD), but Directv doesn't carry them at all. That is a big reason to choose Dish.

Has a network ever been off the air for 6 months and then came back to life?

I'm not sure what Charlie has in mind with his 20% but I think a write-off is coming. Dish Network is already taking a hit for increased churn and reduced new subs so by doing this now, he will not take the hit later. Get the losses over with now and see what happens.

They're not priced the same. For the main channels I watch, D* would cost me an extra $25/month.

Yep, its the opposite for me but Voom was the main reason why I went with E*. Now that Voom appears to be gone I need to reevaluate who I am paying my hard earned cash to. I thought D* had all locals???
