Take this for what it is worth: I have not been given any information, but rather have read a few posts on dbstalk that indicate some things coming for future CE development (or at least that would be a safe assumption).

DirecTV is finalizing their own media-playing software that will let users stream from their HR2x HD-DVRs to a computer. Right now the program Nero Home is letting some users watch some shows, but not all. One user reports that he is sure it is not a rights issue, but an issue with the Nero software. DirecTV is developing their own media playing software for this feature. Hopefully we'll be able to test it soon.

The CTO of DirecTV spent a little time in the dbstalk chat the other night, and gave a few bits of information that are useful.

The Network Logoff Indicator is being removed (Thank You DirecTV!) Stating with this weeks HR20-700 CE, and coming soon to the others.

Dual Live Buffers is NOT coming, but there is a hint / promise of something better? No idea what or when, but good that they are still talking about it.

Again, nothing that I've heard, just stuff I read, so all credit to DBStalk. Actually, to be fair, I wish that I had been in that chat room :)

Either way, hopefully a sign of good things coming soon to the CE program.

Something better than DLB is coming to the HRs - DBSTalk.Com

All of these sound like steps in the right direction.
Thanks for the info Masterdeals, I have not been over there much of late :)

Dlb

I read part of the DBSTalk tread and am a little confused. By DLB (dual buffers) does that mean that we would be able to flip back and forth between the two live feeds? This is one capability I miss from Comcast. If they add PIP along with DLB that would be even better.

Yes :)

The problem at dbstalk is that you have to wade through several hundred posts of FUD and other assorted crap to find little snippets of info, so since I don't have the patience to do this, can anybody tell me what would be better than DLB's? I can't think of anything. I would love to have DLB's, personally.

The way I look at it is, it would be nice to have it, but I have never had the DLB before, so I guess it's not as hard to NOT have the feature.

I would really like to see D* come back with the next generation of rec's to have the Over the Air tuners in them again, followed by having the ability to "Scan for OTA "
channels.

Jimbo, DLB's are a godsend during football season. If you had them, you would miss them. As for OTA, I have that on my 100 and I wouldn't give that either. Great to have for those few times when I actually do lose the sat. signal.
But my Q. remains, what's coming that may be better than DLB's that Masterdeals hinted at in post#1?

Nobody really knows yet. It was just the ramblings from the DirecTV CTO in a chat.

The beta software came out but the Moderators are playing favorites again. I know I won't get to try from them now since I said this. I can always call ISS though.

Currently I use the Jump / Previous button :D
I'm sure if I previously had the feature, I would think otherwise !

Maybe Masterdeals did that to peak interest, maybe he has some info we should torture him for :D

Make him watch the Tigers, that's been torture for me!

Despite holding my 27 game ticket package, which I still go to, I've been watching much more of the Cubs this year. It is much more tollerable.

I'm just waiting for the day Leyland goes off and jump starts these guys. Talk about a slump...

I too am waiting for this, but then again,I doubt it will work this time, I think it's in thier heads that they are good enough and that they will win eventually. (too much reading thier own press clippings.

They are dreadful to watch at this point. (or listen too.)
I wish I had bought the MLB package at least then I could watch the Red Sox ....

There is no beta software for DLB. The only thing about DLB was a mention on the DirecTV CTO chat that "something better then DLB" is coming. No details nor what that means. Heck, could be FUD for all we know.

What is in beta that just started is software for playing your shows on your PC from your HR20 DVR over your home network. As for "playing favorites", just how do you propose to choose out of thousands of people that want in the beta. I was chosen for a Tivo beta once only because I was active in helping people on the TCF forums. Criteria has to be made somewhere and a line drawn somewhere. Don't like it then too bad I guess, nothing you can do about it.

I was talking about the beta software for playing shows on your HR20. I knew the software was coming before the BETA news in DBS. I not stupid on who they hand picked. Doesn't really bother me because I still get the stuff. SWM switch. I got one. SWMSlimeline. I have one. Hands on with an R22. Done it. Well enough Of my banter back to roaming the forums.
