This player is not BD-Live. Don't you think you should change your thread title??? Maybe one of the Mods can change it. Very misleading to newcomers. Gluing a dead Ethernet jack on the back of this box doesn’t make it BD-live. Considering their Samsung's horrible track record with firmware releases and delays its no way you could justify putting BD-live in the title.

Define soon, please.
Here the answer to your question about soon. From post in engadget:

"So when is the promised firmware update for this new purpy will be out?

Oh wait, I'm still waiting for the promised firmware update for my BD-UP5000 (that was realease Nov. 2007). Maybe with the new player on sale now, we may finally see the firmware for the old dog coming soon :(

Don't be a fool to buy the new Samsung players. Give it a year or so for Samsung to fix all the bugs. They never release bug-free players."

So once again I think it’s awfully disingenuous to label this player BD-live. I don’t recall the PS3 being called BD-live for the year or so while $ony dragged their feet with the firmware.

My Dell owner’s manual said the laptop could be upgraded to Vista but I ordered XP. The box didn’t say Vista. Either its 1.1 or 2.0 period. Now I guess the debate turns to the definition of ‘soon’. Well my vote for the definition of soon has already been defined by Samsung!

Well, I stated soon after the PS3's release that not only would the PS3 be 1.1 compliant but that it would also eventually be 2.0 compliant and that it would be able to decode DTS Master HD. Besides being called an idiot, a fool, ignorant and a few other things I will not print here- some in personal e-mails, I have been vindicated. The key here is that when HD-DVD first released alot of things did not work then either -- some took 6 months to get worked out -- the first time the format allowed consumers to use features like online sevices was over a year after the release. I think stating tha the BD1500 is a BD-Live capable player is okay as long as the consumer knows that they will have to wait for those features. Seems like there are really no 2.0 features to access right now accross the board from the studios so my guess is that when those movies with 2.0 features start becoming more pronounced in the marketplace you will see the firmware update from Samsung and probably not until then.

Don't rewrite history, Joe.
Paidgeek said "it is expected" PS3 will do all that.
After that your claim falls under what one of the local bluboys calls "Captain Obvious"...

You went one step further and claimed PS3 already is compliant when it wasn't. For that you were called all those names and deserve each and every one of them...
Maybe you'd like to repeat your claim about BD movies eventually using 4:4:4 36-bit Deep Color ("Why else would TV manufacturers use it?")
And bring HDMI proliferation as an argument for such claim?

Diogen.

Joe in all due respect to your excellent track record when looking into your crystal ball I don’t ever recall $ony ever advertising the PS3 as BD-live or BD-live ready when it was released.

There's a heckuva difference between Sony and Samsung.

Sony has had an excellent track record with respect to Blu-Ray playback on the PS3. Their track record with their standalones has been mixed.

Samsung? Blech...

Let's look:
1.) Class action lawsuit with the BD-P1200 (arguably the best upscaler of the Blu- Ray standalones) for multiple Blu-Ray playback issues.
2.) Playback issues with the BD-P1k (first Blu-Ray standalone released in the US). 3.) Playback issues with the BD-P1400 (first HDM player to bitstream high res audio).
4.) Playback issues with the BD-UP5000 (first combo player to *promise* Blu-Ray profile 1.1 and have 7.1 multichannel analog outs).

No they did not advertise the PS3 as being BD-Live ready but they did state that the PS3 would be able to do anything including that the PS3 would be able to decode DTS Master HD and also be able to do BD-Live with a firmware upgrade. This was stated several times by differant people in Sony's family in Japan, Europe and here in the states. In fact when I meantioned this back in Febuary of last year Diogen blasted me for pushing rumors about the PS3. In fact Diogen even quoted his favorite 'Paidgeek' as not agreeing to wheather or not the PS3 could decode DTS Master HD or that it would even be able to do 1.1.

Well, I did state that the PS3 had dual video decoders -- the first BD player to have that feature and still I was blasted by many here in this very forum.

Guess I was wrong all the time about the PS3 -- huh. And I believe my track record is more accurate even the Diogen's reverant 'Paidgeek'. Maybe next time Diogen you will get an inside source to the gaming market and listen more closely to them?;)

Joe,

A few of the usual suspects on here have been denouncing every bit of insider pass down for the last year, they will continue well into the future.

Funny thing is, we have been blasted continuously for passing along info from Penton Man and Paidgeek(as well as others) that was dead on because it made sense to us(PS3 2.0 and Master are prime examples). Due to it making sense, we believed it and they did not. This is not a shocker because the underlying issue here is we have guys who just plain hate Blu-ray and they transferred from the Zone to this forum because no one goes there anymore. They love speculation and insider hints, because they can shoot it down as fud, then when it becomes truth they rally in finding faults or move on to the next hot topic, while all along we are enjoying Blu-ray and its move forward.

You should do like many of us, and just use the ignore feature as it really helps.

Back to the Blu-ray insiders. The troll crew took ever chance they could get to insult a few of these guys, then coveted every word from Amir. Funny how all of this turned out ain't it

Did you read this, Joe?
Even your cheerleading parrot group thinks you are out of touch here...

Some of the cheerleaders have no fracking clue about the difference between a Holywood a$$hole and Sony Senior Vice President - but hey, you have to start somewhere...

...until the time comes to reveal some fancy "sinus infection" that limits objectivity. And the ignore "promise" gets forgotten... selectively...

And so it goes...

Diogen.

Joe,

Once again you are twisting. You said that the PS3 would be able to bitstream and you claimed that until quite recently. What we quoted from Paidgeek was the PS3 didn't have the hardware necessary to bitstream. It wasn't about using software to decode.

Then there's our Febraury correspondence about the BD50 pricing. I told you all it would be $699. I was told that last October, but you have to go and believe everything BS-Ray puts on their news page.

I am still waiting for the list of those BD titles that have dual language audio tracks.

S~

Oh, on another note, I've got a laservue coming.
