I've read about the wonderful world of FTA, and am looking to setup a system, I currently have a DN sub but I'm planning on dropping it since seems to go up in price every month. Now I've read stuff to get myself acquainted with the terminology but still wet behind my ears, if you know what I mean. My thoughts and suggestions are this setup below

The mkit-2-fta choice set from this list
and a viewsat ultra 2000

Motorized combo Satellite Dish with HH Motor, LNBF, Offset Prime Focus Fortec Star Winegard.

I currently have a dp34 switch with two dishes 1 dn 500+ pro plus to get the 119 and 110 and another dn 500 pointing to 61.5 to get international channels.

My questions where can I mount the dish, can I mount it on a perfectly plumb basketball pole that's mounted to the ground filled with cement. Maybe drill a couple holes in the backboard and install it, then run a long cable 25 feet of rg6 to the switch. Or will installing it in the lawn be better,

Will the motorized dish work with my existing dp34 switch. I heard that the switch requires a lot of power that only a dn receiver can provide. Then I would have to connect a disec switch and worry where I would hide it. The reason why I don't want to take the dn dishes down is the installer who installed it bolted it directly to the roof and i'm afraid I'm not handy enough to repair a big hole that will be left when i remove the dishes. Let me know your thoughts suggestions, thanks for your help.

This setup should work fine.

It is best to keep your Dish Network system separate from a free to air system, the DiSEeqC switch (IF you need one) must come after the motor. Typically, with a motor, only one receiver is used.

Leave the dishes up, but they are of little value for FTA see:

Keep asking questions and read the FAQ and tip of the Iceberg threads list above.

You might consider keeping the smallest Dish Sub you can get, until you get used to the motorized FTA and what you can get. There are a couple networks missing from the DVB Ku band ( CBS and NBC) that you might miss. If you're like most of us, you'll spend a lot of time playing with your system, and examining what's out there, in addition to actually watching a little TV every now and then.
Welcome aboard.

I've read more about this and it seems that once I get used to FTA the DN equipment is garbage, also one satellite dish=one tv. Would I have to buy seperate dishes for each tv. I would like to hook up four tv's eventually, if possible with the least cost. Also should I get a 31" dish and upgrade the lnbf to a lnbf that is linear and circular or should I get the bigger dish 36" that is only a linear lnbf instead. Where would you guys recommend I mount the dish?
