I currently have two dishes, one pointing to 129 and one to 110. I "moved" to Atlanta to recevie better locals a while ago and now I am concerned about losing the locals once they finish moving them to 61.5. Originally I only had one dish but when I ordered my 622 to get HD they put an additional dish to pick up the HD signals. My question is how hard would it be for me to get 61.5 with my current equipment? Can I just repoint one of the existing dishes to receive 61.5? I don't think E* would be much help since technically Im not suppose to point to 61.5 for my locals.

Point dish screen will give you a starting point, you have to tell it you are using a dish 300 to get a compass heading (almost 90 degrees to the left of 110/119). If you are using a dish 500, set your skew at 90.

how can I tell if Im using a 500?

Don't worry about what size dish it is (300 or 500). Garys wants you to enter 300 into the point dish screen so that the receiver will give you the correct az/el for a dish (whatever it's size) with a single LNB.

So I hate to be such a noob, but once I do this and it gives me az/el what is each (i know what they are called just not what they do) and what do I do?

Also is the only thing I need a compass or am I going to need something else?

A compass and a cheap meter to "tweak" the signal for best reception. Google something like "dish pointing meter" to find the meter. Or you can find one on ebay for less than $20.

Keep in mind that the Atlanta Locals, on 61.5, are spot beam. If you "moved" to Atlanta there is a good chance you will not be under the SB. Setting up on 61.5 will give you the national HD channels (conus) the locals are another matter.

oh bother.... :)

i'm close to atlanta but not that close (east alabama). are the locals on 61.5 on spot beams now, and the reason i am not seeing them is because i am too far away? i just thought they were not available yet....

6365 WSB (2) MPEG4 HD 61.5°W 15 8PSK Area 7 beam Not Available
6366 WGCL (46) MPEG4 HD 61.5°W 15 8PSK Area 7 beam Not Available
6367 WXIA (11) MPEG4 HD 61.5°W 15 8PSK Area 7 beam Not Available
6368 WAGA (5) MPEG4 HD 61.5°W 15 8PSK Area 7 beam Not Available

It looks like they are not yet availible.

i would like to see those maps.. where are they?

If you are looking at the dishes from behind, the one pointed at 129º is the one pointed further to the right (west). To get 61.5º you will need to turn that dish almost 90º to the left (east)

See ya

From the looks of it, the dish with the single LNB is pointed pretty much directly south-west, the other with the 2 LNB are point directly south. So I would assume I would need to point the one that is south-west to south-east, does that sound correct? Im in south Georgia if that helps.
