Not so bad on USA, but i was wanting to see a good movie on SCIFI and it was in SD.

But some of the commercials were in HD, very annoying..

Yeah, Bravo has lots of HD commercials...
I tried to watch a movie on Bravo once (before HD). I gave up. Even with a DVR it's too much of a pain to deal with all the commercials. Now that they're supposedly HD I haven't even tried to watch yet. I doubt I ever will.

Get serious folks...

If a channel can display HD advertising, it is obviously an HD channel

p.s. Surely you didn't expect the trivial stuff between the important advertising to be HD too
After all, we just saw what happens to channels that run 100% HD content

To me it sounds like they had their priorities just right.
Yep, I know that I watch a HD channel just for those HD commercials.

Pffffff  I watched Voom all the time and I NEVER SAW ONE COMMERCIAL in HD. Good riddance.

I just flipped by SciFi HD and surprisingly they had zoomed in a movie to full 16:9 even though it (looked) was standard def. Yeah I know I have a zoom button, but still it was nice to at least see them not present the black box view by default.

I just flipped to SciFi-HD and the movie on there now is window-boxed. That's pathetic. And why are they window-boxing repeats of SG-1 that I know were done in 16:9? That just chaps my hide.

As for Bravo, I can't stand the tons of commercials...I rarely watch it. Same for AMC.

They dont have the broadcast rights to show it in HD. Well... ok no I dont know whether or not they have such rights. But I am sure thats the reason. So.... that just means they need to get the ball rolling and get those rights! Yeehaw!

I think it is too much effort at this time to edit in commericals and such for 2 channels all the time, so they just send the SD broadcast over the HD. They probably do not want to pay to do it 2x.

In other words they are just not taking the HD seriously at this time. At least they could be showing all the 16:9 stuff zoomed if they do not have an HD transfer... But then wait they could not run some stupid banner accross it with some guys walking out advertising ghost hunters or something without it being distorted... more production costs to get all the overlays to look right...

There are separate streams. I was watching X-files on SciFi in SD one afternoon a few weeks back, and kept flippin btwn the SD and HD channel, and was surprised to see different commercials on SD vs HD.

last night scifi had two movies that I would have recorded if they had bothered to show in HD but it was the nasty SD. Dusk till dawn 2 and 3.
